Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Managers in Transport and Distribution to oversee and optimise logistics operations within our organisation. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing transportation activities, supervising teams, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency across supply chain functions. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and extensive knowledge of logistics systems and warehouse management processes. The Managers will ensure seamless coordination between warehousing, shipping, receiving, and transportation to meet organisational objectives effectively.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transportation and distribution operations, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with safety standards.
- Supervise teams involved in shipping & receiving, warehouse activities, and logistics coordination.
- Utilise transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and AS400 to plan routes, track shipments, and optimise resource utilisation.
- Manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers and coordinate with external partners to streamline supply chain processes.
- Monitor profit & loss statements related to transport activities, identifying areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives aimed at process optimisation within the supply chain and warehouse functions.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including forklift operation standards and warehouse safety protocols.
- Analyse data to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies in shipping & receiving procedures; develop strategies for process enhancement.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory movements, shipping schedules, and delivery documentation using WMS and ERP systems.
- Lead efforts in process standardisation across departments to improve overall operational performance.
Experience
- Proven supervisory experience within logistics or warehouse management environments.
- Strong understanding of transport management systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP platforms such as AS400, and process improvement methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with shipping & receiving operations, forklift operation, and warehouse procedures.
- Knowledge of supply chain principles including logistics planning, distribution strategies, and inventory control.
- Familiarity with 3PL providers and third-party logistics coordination is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to manage profit & loss accounts effectively while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with process optimisation tools such as Lean or Six Sigma is advantageous but not essential.
