Position summary
Legal Engineers at Reed Smith Legal Solutions work as part of the legal engineering team within the UK delivery centre team across London and Leeds - supporting our staff attorney and paralegal delivery teams, and practice group lawyers, to deliver work product as efficiently as possible. Process improvement is at the core of the role. The team designs and delivers point solutions for legal outputs, designs and improves ongoing workflows, and supports AI and technology deployment across delivery teams and the firm.
Job duties and responsibilities
Transition management and service design
Help identify opportunities for legal work and related activities to transition into the RSLS delivery teams and support those transitions.
Work with legal service delivery teams to transform transitioned legal work into robust, efficient, process-driven services and solutions.
Improvement programme management
Help maintain and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the RSLS delivery centre teams.
Identify and prioritise opportunities to improve process performance and service delivery across the delivery centre legal teams.
Support colleagues in the delivery of improvement projects, ensuring a rigorous approach to delivery.
Identify causes of service-level lapses and put improvements in place to avoid repetition.
Improvement project delivery
Identify, plan and deliver process improvement projects that improve lead time, cost and service delivery.
Identify opportunities for cross-fertilisation of solutions between internal client practices and work with stakeholders to implement them.
Help develop and implement best practices for process improvement activities.
Identify opportunities for, and manage, technology deployment where relevant to improved processes.

Required skills and experience
Essential
Experience working within a full-service commercial law firm, legal department, legal tech vendor, or consultancy role.
Familiarity with legal technology applications such as DocuSign, iManage, Bryter, Power Automate, Kira, Harvey, and familiarity with Generative AI capabilities generally.
Experience building credibility and trust with a diverse and challenging business stakeholder group.
Demonstrable experience driving process improvements in the context of legal work.
Commitment to an alternative legal career path.
Superb project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing quality of client service.
Experience driving improvement in performance using technology and process improvement techniques.
Experience in standard Microsoft Office applications and the ability to master new software quickly.
Resilience under pressure, reliability, accountability, and the desire to meet or exceed objectives and deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with legal teams and stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience of BPMN-compliant process modelling would be an advantage, but training will be provided.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
A process improvement qualification, such as Lean Six Sigma, may be an advantage, although full training will be given.
