Role
We are looking for a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to join our Engineering team.
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager the successful candidate will be time served, or have equivalent experience in an engineering discipline, preferably Toolmaking.
They will have the ability to work well within a team or on their own and be capable of working with minimum supervision.
Working closely with a team of engineers, designers and production personnel, you will be responsible for the design & manufacture of jigs, fixtures & various production aids.
You will have the ability to devise manufacturing methods, and have the skills to follow it through to completion.
You will be responsible for automating production processes old & new, and aid in the setup & continues improvement of new and existing production processes.
You will have experience producing manufacturing tooling drawings on 2D & 3D cad. SolidWorks proficient an advantage and have experience with CAM.
You will also be responsible for manufacturing small batch components and prototype parts used in our products. This will be produced to a high standard and in a timely manner.
You will have a good working knowledge of many manufacturing processes and have experience using CNC & conventional Milling machines & lathes.
You will be able to produce components in both ferrous & non-ferrous materials and capable of inspecting your own work.
You should be capable of using various inspection equipment such as micrometres, verniers & dial indicators.
You will be responsible for producing first article inspection reports on new & evolving parts.
You will also be jointly responsible for ensuring all calibration of measuring & testing equipment is kept up to date, and the equipment is kept in a good working order.
Your responsibilities will also include maintaining and repairing production equipment and special purpose machines. You will need to have a good working knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems, and have the ability to identify and repair faults.
Key Duties
- Design & manufacture new tooling to engineering drawings
- Ensure that company standards are met in relation to the parts produced
- assembling, fitting and repairing tools
- following engineering drawings to measure components and produce tooling designs
- using hand tools such as files, hacksaws and grinders
- using machinery such as CNC & conventual mills, lathes, presses and drills to produce components
- using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)
- using precision measurement instruments such as micrometres, gauges and vernier callipers to check your work and produce first article inspection reports.
- Review methods in production to ensure efficient build times and identify possible improvements
- attending machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem
- understand & be capable of fault finding on electrical & pneumatic systems
- assisting with tool maintenance
- ensuring that lean processes are maintained within your area & production
- using 5s to ensure your area is kept to a high standard
Desirable Skills or experience
- Time served apprenticeship preferable as a Toolmaker
- Or equivalent qualifications / experience
- Experience of working in a manufacturing facility
- Experience with CNC machines, Setting, running & programming
- Experience using conventional toolroom equipment
- Experience using, calibrating & maintaining measuring equipment
- Capable of producing Cad drawings using 2D & 3D cad
- Experience fault finding on electrical & pneumatic systems
- Capable of working in a team or on your own
- Have a good understanding of lean processes & tools
- The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues
- Have good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office

Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:00
Friday 08:00 – 13:00
