About the role
Prested Hall is looking for an experienced, practical and reliable Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative / Handyman to join our in-house team.
Prested is a large and varied estate incorporating a historic wedding and events venue alongside a busy health and fitness club. With everything from guest bedrooms and function spaces to changing rooms, leisure facilities, kitchens, grounds buildings and back-of-house areas, no two days are quite the same.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys fixing things and takes pride in getting jobs completed properly.
This is very much a hands-on role. We are particularly interested in someone with strong practical experience in carpentry, basic plumbing and painting/decorating, together with the ability to tackle the wide variety of general maintenance jobs that arise when looking after a busy property.
You do not need to be an electrician. We already have qualified electrical expertise available for work requiring an electrician.
What you'll be doing
Your work will include:
- Carpentry and joinery repairs, including doors, locks, frames, skirting, furniture and general woodwork
- Basic plumbing – taps, toilets, wastes, traps, leaks, fittings and straightforward repairs
- Painting, decorating, preparation, filling and finishing
- General handyman and building-maintenance work
- Repairs and preventative maintenance across the property
- Identifying maintenance issues before they become bigger problems
- Assisting with refurbishment and improvement projects
- Working across both our wedding/event facilities and health club
- Responding to occasional urgent maintenance issues
- Keeping tools, materials and work areas organised and safe
- Working independently and alongside other members of the maintenance and operational teams
The person we're looking for
Technical ability matters, but reliability and attitude are equally important to us.
You should be someone who:
- Has good practical experience in carpentry, plumbing and decorating/general building maintenance
- Can work confidently without constant supervision
- Takes pride in the standard of their work
- Can be given a job and a deadline and be trusted to see it through
- Is organised and able to prioritise several maintenance tasks
- Turns up reliably and understands that a hospitality and leisure business depends upon its maintenance team
- Has a positive, practical and solution-focused attitude
- Communicates well with colleagues
- Is comfortable working around guests, members and other staff
- Is willing to work a mixture of weekdays and weekends
- Has their own transport or can reliably travel to Prested Hall
Experience maintaining a hotel, wedding venue, leisure club, school, care home, large residential property or similar multi-use site would be particularly useful.
Hours
This is a permanent role for approximately 32 hours per week over four days.
Because Prested operates seven days a week, the working pattern will include regular weekend cover, with the four working days agreed through the rota. Some flexibility will occasionally be required depending on events, projects and operational needs.
