Associate Breakaway Skills Trainer (Self-Employed)
Nationwide | In-Person Delivery | Ministry of Justice Contract
Phoenix Training and Consultancy Ltd is expanding our associate trainer pool and is seeking experienced Breakaway Skills Trainers to support delivery across Approved Premises nationwide, as part of our Ministry of Justice contract.
This role is ideal for professionals with experience delivering breakaway, disengagement, or personal safety training in high-risk or frontline environments, who are confident delivering face-to-face training across the UK.
About the Role
You will deliver half-day breakaway skills sessions as a follow-on to Managing Violence and Conflict (MVC) training, supporting staff to safely disengage from physical contact, create distance, and withdraw from risk where situations escalate despite de-escalation efforts.
The training focuses exclusively on escape and disengagement techniques and does not include restraint or restrictive physical intervention. All delivery is trauma-informed, legally grounded, and aligned with Restraint Reduction Network principles.
What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to hear from trainers who can demonstrate:
· Experience delivering breakaway, disengagement, or personal safety training
· Confidence delivering practical, in-person training to adult professionals
· Strong understanding of de-escalation, reasonable force, and duty of care
· A trauma-informed, person-centred approach to training delivery
· Ability to travel nationally for in-person delivery across the UK
A teaching or training qualification (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education & Training) is desirable but not essential where strong delivery experience can be demonstrated.
What We Offer
- Self-employed associate role with work offered on an as-needed basis
- Delivery under a national Ministry of Justice contract
- Clear course frameworks, materials, and delivery guidance provided
- Competitive per-session fees, with travel expenses covered where agreed
- Work aligned to Phoenix’s trauma-informed, values-led approach
Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Willingness and ability to travel across the UK
- Commitment to Phoenix Training’s safeguarding, equality, and professional standards
