We are currently looking to speak with experienced Senior Instrument Designers for a contract opportunity based in Aberdeen City Centre

Location: St Magnus House, Aberdeen
Duration: 6 months
Start: August 2026
Hours: 40 hours per week
Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days WFH
Due to the hybrid working arrangement, candidates should ideally be Aberdeen-based or within a reasonable commuting distance.

Key requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ Oil & Gas experience
- HNC/NC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
- Strong instrument design and draughting experience
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
- Must have the right to work in the UK
Frequent offshore visits will be required, and candidates should hold valid offshore certification, including:
- BOSIET/FOET, including HUET and CA-EBS
- MIST
- OEUK/OGUK Medical
- Shoulder Measurement, if held
- Any other relevant offshore or role-specific certification
About the job
This is a key role ensuring Instrument Design & Draughting activities are executed in alignment with the client’s integrated brownfield offering.
You will be accountable for the preparation and delivery of Instrument Draughting activities, ensuring technical quality is maintained within agreed budgets and schedules. You will report directly to the Lead or Principal Engineer / Lead Designer.
This role is critical to the client’s continued success and development as a leading EPC contractor within the market.

- Maintain the required technical quality of work.
- Maintain effective communication with discipline and inter-discipline teams.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Assist with improvements to design department working practices, systems and team efficiency.
- Maintain the required technical quality of work.
- Ensure assigned work is compliant with agreed budgets and schedules.
- Maintain project plans, progress updates and cost control for assigned scopes.
- Manage project scope and schedule changes in accordance with the project change control process, as required and in conjunction with the Discipline Lead/Principal Engineer or Lead E&I Designer.
- Ensure compliance with applicable and up-to-date standards, regulations, codes and procedures.
- Support estimate and schedule preparation, input and electronic submission via the client’s digital systems.
- Maintain effective communication with project management and inter-discipline teams.
- Review and check work output and delivery, including remote working and electronic checking/approval.
- Maintain discipline/design document filing, including electronic records, and update relevant design databases.
- Conduct and support competency assessments of design personnel where applicable.
- Support design personnel, including trainee mentoring and technical assistance.
- Maintain regular communication with the Lead/Principal Designer, highlighting issues, concerns and areas for improvement.
- Ensure implementation of relevant design requirements, including CAD/modelling software.
- Undertake site/offshore surveys and visits where required.
- Occasionally act as the Design Focal Point / Lead E&I Designer where required.
What skills & experience you’ll bring
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
- HNC / NC or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Previous offshore experience and willingness to travel offshore is essential.
- Competent Designer with broad knowledge and expertise in draughting techniques.
- Competent in the selection and use of relevant codes, practices, standards and statutory documentation, including multi-discipline requirements.
- Competent in quality control, safety and environmental methods and engineering design procedures.
- Experience directing and organising a design team within a small to medium-sized project environment.
- Previous exposure to the commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of design.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, project teams and other engineering disciplines as required.

Pay: £36.00-£40.00 per hour
