Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Shunter to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for manoeuvring heavy goods vehicles within our premises, ensuring the efficient and safe organisation of lorries and trailers. This role is vital in maintaining smooth operations in a busy freight environment, requiring a strong understanding of vehicle handling and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manoeuvre HGVs and trailers accurately within the yard, including reversing and parking
- Connect and disconnect trailers safely, ensuring proper coupling procedures are followed
- Assist with the organisation of vehicles to optimise loading and unloading schedules
- Conduct basic safety checks on vehicles before movement
- Follow all health and safety regulations to maintain a secure working environment
- Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, drivers, and management regarding vehicle movements and scheduling
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements and trailer locations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in driving HGVs with a valid driving licence suitable for commercial vehicles, must have C+E licence, ADR and current DQC
- Previous experience as a delivery driver or in a similar logistics role is desirable
- Familiarity with flatbed vehicles and trailer handling techniques
- Strong understanding of commercial driving regulations and safety standards
- Ability to operate within tight schedules while maintaining high safety standards
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
