We are recruiting an experienced, hands-on multi-skilled engineer to take ownership of maintenance and site engineering, reporting directly to the Operations Director and overseeing our second-year engineering apprentice.
This is a hands-on role: you will be on the tools diagnosing and repairing breakdowns across a wide range of equipment. It also comes with genuine ownership. Our maintenance systems are partly developed, and we need someone who can assess what exists, fill the gaps, and build from the ground up where required. If you want to fix the system as well as the machine, this is that role.
Key responsibilities
Maintenance and repair
- Maintain and repair all production equipment and site facilities to minimise downtime
- Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control systems
- Develop and run the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule
- Maintain accurate equipment records and job history in our in-house CMMS, and help develop it further
Spares and inventory
- Manage spares and consumables: identify critical spares, set stock levels, and maintain availability without overstocking
Contractors and statutory compliance
- Coordinate and track external servicing and statutory inspections (LOLER, pressure systems, LEV testing, fixed wire testing, boiler servicing)
- Maintain records supporting ISO 45001 and insurance requirements
Safety systems
- Develop and embed risk assessments, SOPs, safe systems of work and lock-out/tag-out, working with our Compliance and H&S Manager and external H&S consultant
- Implement improved procedures on the shop floor so they stick
Electrical installation
- Plan, carry out and certify electrical installation work (power feeds, distribution boards, lighting), or specify and manage contractors for larger installations
Site improvement
- Design and build equipment and workflow improvements: jigs, fixtures, handling trolleys and machine modifications
- Provide engineering input to site projects and machine relocations
People
- Mentor and oversee the day-to-day development of our engineering apprentice, with scope to grow the team
