The position reports to the Sr. Field Operations Manager and provides consistent leadership across multiple projects and sites, verifying standards, capability, and performance are applied uniformly across the UK region such that the planned work is delivered safely and on time; and monitoring that performance meets recognised standards of productivity, quality and compliance with essential health and safety provisions.
- Line manager for Site operations staff.
- Understand the Company Health & Safety and Environmental (SHE) Policies and Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company’s operations and ensure the requirements are implemented
- Manage compliance with CDM regulations on site.
- Attend project sites as required
- Act as onsite support/supervision or temporary site manager as required and as defined by National Grid’s SR163 procedure, or equivalent role as defined by other clients
- Lead and motivate a team of employees and contractors to deliver all aspects of onsite project delivery.
- Produce roster for the staff under their management
- Resource suitably competent staff to deliver site works
- Undertake detailed site visits
- Produce reports or provide information in a timely manner
- Attend and cascade briefings as directed and in a timely manner
- Liaise with customers, clients, local authorities and other interested third parties regarding past, present or future works
- To provide sufficient and timely supervision, assessment and coaching to ensure staff and sub-contractors are performing to agreed production levels
- To maintain own levels of skill and knowledge to do the job effectively
- To perform other duties as directed by your line manager or management team
- To comply with the relevant Company HSQE and welfare policy provisions
- To support clients and ensure all agreed KPIs are met or exceeded
- To ensure operative records are accurate and kept up to date
- Provide operational and functional management advice on the practical implementation of the company’s Environmental policies and processes including external stakeholders such as customers if necessary.
- Assist the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents.
- Promote best practice, capture best practice and ensure it is fed-back into the business.
- Set standards and lead by example in health, safety, quality & environmental management.
- Contribute to project tender submission:
- Writing / reviewing Construction Methodology Statements
- Support the planner in the development of the construction phase of the programme.
- Contribute towards production and review of site and construction procedures to ensure they are practical and aligned to good working practices
- Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.
- Responsible for interpreting the organisation's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.
- Responsible for verifying adherence to established QA/QC processes.
- Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Responsible for diversity initiatives.

- Must have an understanding/ knowledge of the client's transmission procedures
- Must have a strong understanding of engineering drawings and the management of drawing systems
Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field and 7 years relevant construction experience or additional applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
- Full UK driving licence
- Meet the requirements and previously held SR163
- National Grid Competent Person NSI 6 & 8 Full

- Varied knowledge of OEM’s
- Minimum of 5 years Site Management of HV substation construction.
- Must have a strong substation construction knowledge
- IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.
