Job purpose:
The purpose of this role is to provide support with a variety of tasks that enable the individual to live their personal and social life in accordance with their wishes, preferences, and interests, while promoting independence and maintaining their wellbeing.
The support required will vary depending on the individual's needs at any given time. As the individual is already able to complete many daily tasks independently, the role is primarily to provide encouragement, prompting, supervision, monitoring, and safeguarding where appropriate. The aim is to maximise the person's independence, build confidence, and ensure their safety while supporting them to achieve their desired outcomes.
About the individual:
The individual is a man in his 50s with a keen interest in cycling, gardening, cars, and Lego. He enjoys engaging in conversations, communicates well, and is sociable. Although he has some learning difficulties and may occasionally struggle with the pronunciation of certain words, he is generally able to express himself effectively and maintain meaningful conversations.
He has epilepsy, which is well controlled with medication.
He is largely independent with his personal care and is able to shower, shave, and dress himself. However, he may benefit from occasional prompts or reminders to ensure that his clothing is clean, appropriate, and presentable.
He is able to prepare hot drinks independently and can cook simple meals using a microwave or cook pizzas in the Aga. Due to a mild tremor and some balance difficulties, he requires support when preparing more complex home-cooked meals and with tasks involving removing hot items from the oven to reduce the risk of injury.
Although he is unable to read or write, he is able to recognise familiar key words and can independently purchase basic everyday grocery items. He benefits from information being presented verbally or through familiar visual cues to support his understanding and independence
