Job Title: Healthcare Professional Lead – Registered Nurse (Maternity Cover)
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Contract: Fixed-Term (Maternity Cover)
Hours: 24 hours per week, worked over four days.
Availability on Mondays and Fridays is essential.
Salary: Commensurate with experience (pro rota to a 38hr week)
Location: Home-based with occasional travel throughout the UK, including attendance at meetings, events and conferences.

Job Purpose
The Healthcare Professional Lead plays a key role in ensuring Kidney Cancer UK provides high-quality, evidence-based information, support and advocacy for people affected by kidney cancer.
As the charity's lead clinical professional, the postholder will provide expert nursing advice to patients, families and healthcare professionals, lead the development of the charity's clinical services and resources, and strengthen relationships with NHS partners across the UK.
Working collaboratively across the organisation, the Healthcare Professional Lead will ensure that the charity's healthcare activities are informed by current clinical evidence, patient experience and best practice, supporting Kidney Cancer UK's mission to improve outcomes for everyone affected by kidney cancer.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide professional clinical leadership across the charity.
- Ensure that all healthcare information and advice provided by the charity is accurate, evidence-based and reflects current best practice.
- Provide clinical guidance and support to colleagues across the organisation.
- Work within the NMC Code, maintaining professional standards and recognising the limits of own competence.
- Keep abreast of developments in kidney cancer treatment, research and national policy.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the charity's healthcare services.
Patient Information and Support
- Deliver compassionate, evidence-based support to patients, families and carers through the charity's Support Line.
- Respond appropriately to complex enquiries, recognising when onward referral or escalation is required.
- Support individuals in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and available support services.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and contemporaneous records of patient interactions.
Healthcare Professional Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with NHS cancer centres, Clinical Nurse Specialists, oncology and urology teams and wider healthcare professionals.
- Promote Kidney Cancer UK's services within healthcare settings.
- Increase awareness of the charity and encourage referrals into its support services.
- Represent the charity at clinical meetings, conferences and professional events.
Education and Community Engagement
- Plan, facilitate and participate in patient support groups, educational webinars and community events.
- Deliver presentations to patients, healthcare professionals and partner organisations.
- Support the development of educational resources for patients and professionals.
- Engage appropriately within the charity's online communities, including moderating closed social media support groups where required.
Policy, Advocacy and Research
- Represent Kidney Cancer UK within national clinical and policy forums.
- Contribute to consultation responses, including NICE guideline consultations and other healthcare policy submissions.
- Support the charity's engagement with Cancer52 and other strategic partnerships.
- Champion the patient voice within healthcare policy and service development.
Clinical Information and Resources
- Review, develop and maintain the charity's clinical publications and patient information resources.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure healthcare information remains accurate, accessible and evidence-based.
- Provide clinical input into awareness campaigns, communications and media activity where appropriate.
Cross-Organisational Working
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across fundraising, communications, marketing and patient services.
- Support organisational planning and continuous improvement.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Professional Registration
Essential
- Registered Adult Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.
- Minimum of three years' post-registration nursing experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
- Degree-level qualification in Nursing or a related healthcare discipline.
- Additional qualifications or specialist training in oncology, urology, cancer care, palliative care or patient education.
