Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Worker

Hours: Full-Time Only – Waking Night Shifts (Full Flexibility Required)

About the Role
This is a Waking Night position, you will remain fully awake and alert for the entire duration of your shift.
As a Waking Night Residential Support Worker, you play a vital role in maintaining the safety, stability, and emotional wellbeing of children during the night. Nights can be a vulnerable time for young people, and your calm, consistent, and professional presence provides reassurance and containment.
You will carry out regular welfare checks, respond appropriately to behaviours, follow care and risk management plans, and ensure accurate and professional recording.
This role is full-time only. Applicants must be fully flexible and available to work waking night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and security of the home during night hours
- Conduct regular welfare checks in line with placement plans and risk assessments
- Respond appropriately to night-time distress, incidents, or safeguarding concerns
- Provide emotional reassurance and appropriate de-escalation support
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Accurately complete night logs, incident reports, and detailed handovers
- Follow Behaviour Support Plans and safeguarding procedures
- Ensure the home environment remains safe, clean, and secure
- Support early morning routines where required
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, and mandatory training
- Work in line with Children’s Homes Regulations, safeguarding policies, and Ofsted standards
Essential Requirements
- Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available now or in the future)
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and responsive throughout night shifts
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Calm, resilient, and emotionally mature approach
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to undertake Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare if not already achieved
Desirable
- Experience working in a Children’s Residential Home
- Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, trauma, or behavioural needs
- PMVA or equivalent behaviour management training
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
