This is an office-based Dispute Resolution Paralegal role in South Manchester with a salary of £27,000–£30,000, designed for experienced paralegals.
About the firm and team
A well-established, Cheshire-based law firm with a strong presence in Manchester as well as other locations and is growing its disputes team as part of its strategic expansion plans.
You will join a respected Dispute Resolution department that advises individuals and businesses on a broad range of contentious matters, working closely with experienced fee earners in a supportive, professional environment.
The opportunity
This is a permanent, full-time paralegal position, based in the firm’s office, offering excellent working conditions and a collaborative culture.
The role is ideal for someone with prior dispute resolution or litigation experience who wants to deepen their expertise as a dedicated career paralegal, rather than as a stepping stone to a solicitor role.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting dispute resolution solicitors across a varied caseload, from early-stage instructions through to matters proceeding toward trial or settlement.
- Reviewing and organising evidence, preparing court and hearing bundles, and managing documents in line with the Civil Procedure Rules, including use of electronic filing systems where required.
- Drafting clear and accurate correspondence to clients, courts, experts and opponents, as well as basic instructions to counsel and straightforward applications.
- Conducting basic legal research, obtaining information from relevant experts, and assisting fee earners with settlement discussions and case preparation.
- Attending client and counsel meetings, conferences and hearings as appropriate, taking detailed attendance notes and ensuring that matters are progressing effectively.
- Handling day-to-day file administration, time recording and billing support to help the team meet targets while maintaining high standards of client care and confidentiality.
Skills and experience
- Previous experience working as a paralegal in dispute resolution, commercial litigation or a similar contentious area within a law firm is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail, spelling and grammar, and the ability to present information simply and accurately.
- Confident in liaising with clients, courts, counsel and other stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism, discretion and empathy at all times.
- Highly organised, able to manage your own workload, work to deadlines and provide regular updates to supervising fee earners.
- Comfortable using case management and document management systems, alongside strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel). Experience with electronic court filing is an advantage but not essential.
- A good academic foundation in law (for example LLB, GDL or equivalent) or substantial practical paralegal experience in litigation will be valued.
Working conditions and benefits
- Salary band: £27,000–£30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Office-based role with high-quality facilities and a friendly, supportive team culture.
- Excellent benefits, which typically include generous annual leave, pension contributions, healthcare or wellbeing support and other perks appropriate to a reputable regional firm (details can be confirmed at interview).
- Ongoing training, supervision and professional development focused on building your capability and progression as a specialist paralegal within the firm’s dispute resolution offering.
Important notes about the role
This position is specifically for a Dispute Resolution Paralegal and is not designed as a training contract pathway or a guaranteed route to a future solicitor role.
The role would suit candidates who are not currently studying for the SQE and who are motivated by developing and maintaining a long-term, high-quality paralegal career in disputes work.
