About the role
We’re not looking for a desk manager.
MAP Group is a family-run collection of three distinctive venues on Kingsland Road — MAP
Maison (Japanese whisky and cocktail bar), Pizza Pārā (Neapolitan pizza
restaurant), and La Bibliothèque (Mediterranean-Japanese fusion dining, sake, wine and cocktail bar).
Each has its own identity. Together, they share a commitment to quality, creativity, and the
kind of hospitality that keeps people coming back.
We’re looking for an Assistant General Manager who is as comfortable behind the bar and on the floor as they are in a spreadsheet. Someone who can lead from the front, read a room, grow revenue, and bring fresh energy to everything they touch.
What you’ll own:
- Day-to-day operations across all three venues — floor and bar presence is a big part of the role and non-negotiable
- Revenue growth: covers, spend-per-head, private hire, events, and beyond
- Team leadership, development, and culture — hiring, training, and retaining great people
- Guest experience from first impression to final farewell
- Masterclasses and curated experiences (Japanese whisky, cocktails, wine, food
pairings)
- Fresh programming ideas — collaborations, pop-ups, members events, seasonal
campaigns
- Coordination with the owner on marketing, social content, and brand direction
- Stock, cost control, and weekly reporting
What we’re looking for
- Strong background in bars management (this is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior experience as bars or restaurant manager, looking to step up).
- Genuinely hands-on: you enjoy being on the floor and leading by example
- A sharp commercial mind — you understand what drives revenue and you act on it
- Creative instinct: you bring ideas without being asked
- Comfortable hosting and presenting in front of guests — whisky masterclasses, sake tastings, private events - a key requirement of the role
- Passion for at least one of: craft cocktails, Japanese whisky, natural wine, or refined
food
- Calm under pressure, decisive, and good with people at every level
- Eligible to work in the UK (the company is not in a position to offer sponsorship)
