Maelor Foods Ltd is an established, state of the art, modern chicken processing facility based just outside of Wrexham. As a privately owned, Family run business we source our birds from reputable local farms who comply to British Red Tractor guidelines. This enables us to provide premium "A" grade quality whole chickens direct to retailers. Working closely with our sister company, Salisbury Poultry we have the ability to offer the end user full farm to fork traceability, ensuring total customer satisfaction.
The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor will be responsible for leading the QA team to ensure full implementation of the quality assurance system by providing technical support to the production, maintenance and hygiene teams. Ensuring that products are produced safely and in line with legislative requirements, including bird welfare and to meet customer quality standards consistently. You will work on improvement projects aligned to the long-term strategy of the company and will be instrumental in creating a sustainable work environment for the team and ensuring operational effectiveness is maximised, KPI’s are met and uphold technical and quality standards through the development of people, processes and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily QA operations, ensuring completion and accuracy of QA reports, checks, and documentation.
- Maintain and continually improve the site Quality Management System.
- Ensure products meet specification through effective corrective actions and ongoing standards compliance.
- Apply and uphold quality, food safety, and audit standards including BRC, Red Tractor, HACCP, GMP, and customer requirements.
- Conduct internal audits of the factory environment, hygiene, processes, products, and records; agree and follow up on corrective action plans.
- Manage customer complaints and feedback, ensuring timely investigation and resolution.
- Develop, review, and update quality documentation and procedures.
- Perform critical quality tasks such as calibration, sampling, swabbing, and temperature monitoring.
- Promote and comply with all policies relating to animal welfare, reporting any concerns immediately.
- Provide technical support to production, hygiene, engineering, and other departments to strengthen food safety awareness and compliance.
- Support problem-solving activities, continuous improvement projects, and audit-readiness initiatives.
- Deliver daily QA supervisory updates highlighting key issues, risks, and actions.
- Monitor and maintain customer service levels and support site improvement projects.

To ensure maximum efficiencies within the operation, flexibility is essential. You will be required to assist in other areas which could include other departments within the business.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
- Previous experience of supervising / managing a team in a FMCG environment
- Previous QA experience
- Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation
- Proven track record of achieving improvements within area of responsibility
- Strong influencing skills
- Ability to drive continuous improvement performance whilst leading others
- Excellent communication skills; ability to liaise with varying stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
- Self- motivated and customer focused
- Commercial acumen and financially aware
- Have a good knowledge of certification welfare schemes i.e. Red Tractor Assurance
- Commitment to attend company training courses to ensure manufacturing capability keeps pace or exceeds customer requirements and corporate responsibilities including food quality, food safety, animal welfare and health and safety.
Desirable:
- Previous experience / management of working within Poultry Processing
- Knowledge of HACCP, BRC Standards, Food Legislation, Food Hygiene, Red Tractor.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Advanced Food Safety certificate
- Intermediate certificate in applied HACCP principles.
Hours of Work
It is rotational working shift of:
- Week 1: Monday 04:00am – 16:00pm, Tuesday to Friday 13:30pm – 23:00pm
- Week 2: Tuesday to Saturday 04:00am – 14:00pm
