Tonic is looking for two Business Development Consultants to help drive the next stage of growth.
The business has built a strong delivery engine and established valuable relationships with major organisations in the battery, energy storage and wider clean technology market. The next step is to broaden the client base and create a repeatable outbound function focused on opening doors with new customers.
This role is built for someone earlier in their career who is hungry, resilient and highly coachable. You do not need prior recruitment experience. You do need to be comfortable on the phone, capable of handling rejection, and motivated by the chance to earn your way into a much bigger commercial role.
This is not a passive sales role. It is a focused outbound position with a clear objective: generate qualified meetings for the senior commercial team and build the foundations for progression into account management.
What you’ll be doing
You will spend the majority of your time on outbound business development activity, targeting prospective clients across Tonic’s market.
Your responsibilities will include:
- making high-volume outbound calls to prospective clients
- using CRM, lists and market mapping data to work through targeted contact pools
- booking qualified meetings for the founders / account leads
- following up consistently across phone, email and LinkedIn where appropriate
- learning Tonic’s verticals, value proposition and target market segments
- building confidence speaking to senior commercial, technical and operational stakeholders
- supporting outbound messaging, outreach sequencing and light personal-brand/marketing activity where needed
- keeping CRM data accurate and up to date
- contributing to a repeatable sales development process that can scale
What good looks like
Success in this role is not measured by noise or vanity metrics. It is measured by qualified meetings, consistency of activity, quality of conversations and progress toward becoming commercially credible in the market.
In the early months, good performance will look like:
- strong activity levels
- resilience and consistency
- improving call quality
- increasing confidence in market conversations
- a growing number of qualified meetings booked
- evidence of coachability and commercial judgement
Over time, the expectation is that strong performers will develop into account managers who can own and grow client relationships directly.
What we’re looking for
We are open on background, but the right person is likely to have come from a target-driven, phone-heavy or commercially demanding environment.
You may have experience in:
- SDR / BDR / telesales
- call centre or contact centre roles
- debt collection or collections
- customer service with strong outbound exposure
- estate agency or other high-contact sales roles
- sales support / appointment setting
- entry-level recruitment or other high-activity commercial roles
Essential qualities
- confident communicator with a polished, credible manner
- comfortable making outbound calls every day
- resilient and not discouraged by rejection
- naturally competitive and motivated to improve
- coachable and open to structure, feedback and repetition
- interested in business, markets, technology or the wider world
- wants progression, not just a job
- able to work Monday to Thursday, 11am–8pm, in the office
Desirable
- experience in phone-based sales or appointment setting
- exposure to recruitment, engineering, technology, energy or financial services environments
- evidence of working to targets and KPIs
- experience using CRM systems and structured outreach lists
Why join Tonic?
- genuine four-day working week
- clear route into account management
- chance to join a small, ambitious business where your contribution matters
- exposure to major international clients in high-growth sectors
- highly commercial environment with meaningful upside
- opportunity to build a career rather than remain in a transactional sales role
Who this role suits
This role suits someone who feels they have more to give than their current environment allows. Someone who is smart, hungry and under-utilised. Someone who can handle the grind of outbound work because they understand what it leads to.
It will not suit someone looking for an easy internal sales job, lots of variety from day one, or a low-accountability environment.
