Working under the direction of the Lead Practice Nurse and Practice Nurse as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our established team. The role of the HCA is an essential part of our GP Practice. You must work with autonomy and a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, discretion and empathy.
Duties and Responsibilities
As part of this role you will be a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the primary health care team and will also be involved with admin duties.
Duties will develop with the need and expansion of the service but it can be expected to include:
● undertaking of tasks and duties delegated by the clinical team and managing own workload
● recognise and remain working within own limitations and to the practice protocols
● undertaking procedures such as blood pressures, ECG’s, phlebotomy, NHS health checks. 24Hr ECG, AMBP
● working under a PSD to administer injections
● supporting with the ordering of supplies
● accurate and timely record keeping
● promoting lifestyle advise and completing referrals as necessary
● providing a home service for those housebound requiring procedures covered by the HCA role.
Requirements
Essential
● NVQ level 2 in health and social care
● Experience in extended roles: phlebotomy, ECG and basic observations
● Ability to work in a demanding and busy environment
● Flexibility in approach to work to meet the demands of the service
● Basic IT skills
Desirable
● Previous experience of working within a GP setting
● Familiar with SystmOne and Ardens, however training will be provided

● Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

● Participation in an annual individual performance review with the Lead Practice Nurse, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
● Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
● Quality: The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:
● Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
● Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision
● Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance
● Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
● Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
Communication
The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

● Attend nurse team meetings and report any concerns to line manager/management.
Pay: £13.10 per hour
