Halton Consultancy is recruiting on behalf of a well established public transport operator for an experienced Engineering Supervisor to join their busy engineering depot in Slough.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional to take a leading role within a busy workshop environment, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a modern vehicle fleet.
Working alongside the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for supervising the engineering team, coordinating maintenance activities and ensuring vehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance. You will play a key role in improving fleet availability, supporting operational performance and developing a strong engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Engineering Manager with the daily management of workshop activities and engineering operations.
- Supervise and provide leadership to a team of engineers and technicians, encouraging high standards of performance and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate planned, scheduled and reactive maintenance work to ensure effective use of resources.
- Monitor vehicle availability and support operational requirements by minimising downtime.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in line with company procedures, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, including maintenance documentation, compliance records and performance information.
- Work closely with the stores team to support stock management and warranty claim processes.
- Assist with team development, including coaching, training and supporting engineers to achieve their potential.
- Support employee-related processes, including attendance, performance and conduct matters, in line with company policies.
- Collaborate with operational teams to manage breakdowns, vehicle changeovers and service reliability.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture across the engineering environment.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or a related discipline.
- Previous experience supervising or leading an engineering, workshop or fleet maintenance team.
- Knowledge of safe working practices and workshop equipment.
- Experience within a commercial vehicle, bus, coach, HGV or similar maintenance environment is desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and IT skills.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A PCV licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
