Quality Engineer: Automotive & Precision Engineering West Yorkshire | £45,000 | Full time | Join a well established precision engineering business supplying multiple industrial sectors
A quality role where your personality matters as much as your process knowledge
Fortem People is recruiting on behalf of a well established engineering business in West Yorkshire known for precision manufacturing across multiple sectors.
They're looking for a Quality Engineer who brings genuine presence to the shop floor, someone confident, engaging and comfortable building relationships across production, engineering and suppliers. Strong technical grounding matters, but so does charisma. This is a role for someone who can win hearts and minds as easily as they close out an NCR.
What you'll be doing
- Owning quality on the ground: acting as the go to person for all quality activity, creating and maintaining quality plans across products and processes
- Driving root cause and continuous improvement: leading 8D, 5 Why and Ishikawa investigations, running kaizen events and championing error proofing techniques
- Working the data: tracking scrap, rework and first pass yield, reporting on quality performance and taking action on SPC trends
- Auditing and assuring compliance: conducting production line audits, keeping inspection equipment calibrated and standards upheld
- Building relationships: partnering closely with production, engineering and suppliers to resolve issues fast and keep everyone bought in
You'll report to the Quality Manager.
Who we're looking for
- Solid, hands on experience within a core ISO quality management system (IATF16949, AS9100D or similar backgrounds are all welcome, no specific certification required)
- Auditor qualification or equivalent practical audit experience
- Confident using standard problem solving tools (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, RCA)
- Comfortable with data, Excel as a minimum, Minitab or Power BI a bonus
- A natural communicator with real presence, someone who can influence, engage and lead people through change
It would also be great (but not essential) if you've worked with PPAP processes or hold Chartered Quality Institute membership, but our client is far more interested in finding the right person with the right energy than ticking every box.
Why this role?
- £45,000 starting salary, with some flexibility for the right candidate
- A genuine opportunity to shape quality culture in a business that values personality as much as process
- Variety across multiple industrial sectors
- A collaborative, people first environment where your voice will be heard
