Prospect House School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Chef to join our friendly team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled chef who is passionate about preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for children in a supportive school environment.

You will be an experienced cook with a strong understanding of food safety and child nutrition. You will be organised, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team in a busy school kitchen. You will be a strong leader who thrives to inspire the team they work with to provide a high quality service to pupils of the school.
About the Role
The School Chef will be responsible for planning, preparing and serving balanced, appealing meals for pupils and staff, ensuring all food meets nutritional guidelines and individual dietary requirements. You will work closely with the Head Chef and wider school team to deliver a positive dining experience that supports pupils’ health and wellbeing. Please note this is a term time only position.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare daily meals that meet nutritional standards for children
- Working with and reporting to the Catering Manager to ensure consistency of menus across both sites
- Cater for special dietary requirements, including allergies and medical, vegetarian, halal and kosher diets
- Ensure high standards of food presentation, portion control and quality
- Manage day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking and service
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety
- Monitor food storage, deliveries and stock, minimising waste where possible
- Keep accurate food safety, temperature and cleaning records
- Train and supervise kitchen assistants
- Support school events and special functions involving food
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, and liaise with parents or staff regarding dietary needs when required
Essential requirements
- Proven experience in a kitchen environment
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards
- Ability to work early mornings and school hours
Desirable
- Experience in a school or similar setting
- Food safety certification (training can be provided)
