About Us
National Performing Academy is a growing, auditioned performing arts academy for young people in Cambridge. We provide high-quality training in acting, singing and dance, developing technically strong, confident and versatile performers alongside ambitious showcases and fully staged productions.
About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional Dance Teacher / Choreographer to take a leading role in the dance training of students across our Musical Theatre programmes.
This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about developing young performers technically, not simply teaching routines.
You’ll deliver high-quality technical training in musical theatre dance, helping students develop strong foundations, versatility and confidence as performers. There will also be opportunities to create choreography for showcases, productions and other performance projects.
Teaching takes place on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays during term time, with up to approximately 6 hours per week available depending on programme requirements and student numbers. During the Autumn Term, teaching may operate on a rotational basis between disciplines, so hours may vary from week to week.
Additional paid opportunities may also be available across productions, rehearsals and holiday intensives.
What You'll Do
- Deliver high-quality musical theatre dance training
- Develop students' technique, strength, coordination and performance quality
- Teach across musical theatre and jazz styles
- Plan progressive, engaging sessions appropriate to different ages and abilities
- Create original choreography for showcases and fully staged productions
- Maintain a positive, focused and disciplined studio environment
- Work collaboratively with our wider creative and teaching team
- Contribute to the continued development of NPA's Musical Theatre curriculum
We're Looking For
- Excellent dance technique and strong choreographic ability
- Professional training and/or significant relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of musical theatre and jazz dance
- Experience teaching children or young people
- The ability to challenge stronger performers while supporting developing students
- A confident, energetic and encouraging teaching style
- Reliability, excellent communication and a collaborative approach
- Someone excited by the opportunity to help shape the artistic and technical standard of a growing programme
Availability for both Tuesdays and Saturdays is welcomed, but we are also happy to hear from exceptional candidates who may only be available on one of these days.
This position involves working directly with children and is subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the position may be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Early applications are therefore encouraged.
