Job Overview
Our client, based near Colchester is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer specialising in Construction Residential projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, equipment, and services necessary for residential construction endeavours. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain management, negotiation skills, and familiarity with various ERP systems to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement. The Buyer will play a vital part in supporting project timelines and maintaining excellent supplier relationships to optimise procurement processes.
Duties
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for residential construction projects, including sourcing, purchasing, and delivery scheduling.
- Utilise ERP systems such as SAP, SAP ERP, Oracle EBS, JD Edwards, and AS400 to track orders, manage inventory levels, and generate procurement reports.
- Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to secure the best value for the company.
- Coordinate logistics and ensure the timely receipt of materials and equipment to meet project deadlines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal project teams to facilitate smooth procurement operations.
- Analyse market trends and supplier performance to optimise purchasing strategies.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety regulations, and industry standards throughout procurement activities.
- Collaborate with merchandising teams to forecast material requirements based on project needs.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Buyer within the construction or residential development sector.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, SAP ERP, Oracle EBS, JD Edwards, or AS400 is essential.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favourable terms.
- Knowledge of logistics management and supply chain processes relevant to construction materials.
- Familiarity with merchandising principles and inventory control practices.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Good communication skills to liaise confidently with suppliers and internal teams.
- Experience working with construction-specific software or systems is advantageous.
- A recognised qualification in supply chain management or procurement is desirable but not mandatory.
