North Star Day Nursery, part of Grandir UK, is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Deputy Nursery Manager to join our brand-new, purpose-built setting in Welwyn.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something new. You will work closely with the Nursery Manager to build a strong team, establish a positive nursery culture and create an inspiring environment where children can learn, develop and thrive.

About the Role
As Deputy Nursery Manager, you will work in partnership with the Nursery Manager to provide strong leadership and ensure the nursery delivers consistently high standards of care and education.
You will be a visible and supportive leader who motivates the team, promotes best practice and helps create a positive environment for children, families and colleagues.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Supporting the Nursery Manager with the day-to-day leadership and operation of the nursery
- Helping to recruit, induct, support and develop a passionate and high-performing nursery team
- Leading the nursery in the Nursery Manager’s absence
- Promoting high standards across the nursery environment, resources and experiences offered to children
- Ensuring children receive rich and stimulating experiences appropriate to their individual needs, interests and stages of development
- Supporting the implementation of the EYFS and Grandir UK’s educational programmes
- Building positive and professional relationships with parents, carers and the local community
- Supporting colleagues through supervision, coaching, mentoring and performance reviews
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and regulatory requirements are consistently met
- Supporting the nursery’s occupancy, staffing and operational targets
- Helping to prepare the nursery for Ofsted inspections and implementing any recommendations
- Promoting a positive culture where colleagues feel valued, supported and able to develop
What We’re Looking For
- A full and relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification
- Previous experience in a Deputy Nursery Manager, Third in Charge, Room Leader or similar senior early years role
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and Ofsted requirements
- A confident, supportive and approachable leadership style
- Experience of coaching, developing and motivating nursery colleagues
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organisation and problem-solving abilities
- A genuine commitment to providing exceptional experiences for children and families
- The enthusiasm to help establish and grow a successful brand-new nursery

North Star Day Nursery is located at 82 Great North Road, Oaklands, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, AL6 0TA.
Its location on Great North Road provides convenient access for those travelling from Welwyn, Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and the surrounding Hertfordshire areas. The nursery is also well positioned for access to the A1(M).
