What makes this role different?
We don’t want to recruit someone simply to complete as many service visits as possible.
Our engineers are trusted to look after our customers properly.
The role includes a good mixture of planned servicing, fault finding, remedial works, system upgrades and supporting small and medium-sized installations.
Depending on your existing experience and as you progress, you’ll also have opportunities to become involved in programming and commissioning systems.
Fire Alarms are at the heart of what we do, but we also work with Emergency Lighting, Access Control, CCTV, Intruder Alarms and other Fire & Security systems.
You don’t need to know everything already.
If you’re a good Fire Alarm Engineer with the right attitude, we’ll help you develop the rest through manufacturer and external training courses, internal training and, importantly, working alongside experienced engineers on real jobs.
For someone who wants it, we see a genuine route towards becoming a stronger multi-skilled engineer and/or progressing into commissioning and greater technical responsibility as our branch continues to grow.
A little about us
Jackson Fire & Security has been established since 1991. Our Bromley branch opened in 2023 and has grown steadily since.
We’re deliberately building a business based on long-term customer relationships, good technical standards and doing things properly.
We’re still a small team, and we think that’s one of our strengths.
You’ll know the people you’re working with. You’ll have direct access to me, our Lead Engineer and our office team. If you need technical help, someone will answer the phone. If you’ve got an idea about how we could do something better, we’ll listen.
We set high standards, but we also believe strongly in looking after our people.
We don’t expect engineers to rush through jobs simply to achieve unrealistic visit numbers. We’d rather give a customer good advice, identify problems properly and leave a system in a better condition than we found it.
Trust matters to us – both the trust our customers place in us and the trust we place in our engineers.
What will you actually be doing?
No two weeks will look exactly the same, but your work is likely to include:
- planned servicing of conventional and addressable Fire Alarm systems;
- fault finding and diagnosis;
- remedial and small works;
- system alterations and upgrades;
- supporting small and medium-sized installations;
- programming and commissioning, depending on your experience;
- Emergency Lighting servicing and remedials;
- opportunities to work with Access Control, CCTV and Intruder systems;
- advising customers and explaining defects or recommendations;
- producing clear, accurate service reports.
Our customers include schools, apartment buildings, commercial premises and other sites across South East London and Kent.
Who are we looking for?
You don’t have to be the finished article.
We’re interested in someone who already has a good grounding in Fire Alarm systems and wants to become a better engineer.
As a minimum, we’d ideally like you to have:
- around two years’ practical Fire Alarm experience;
- experience servicing conventional and addressable systems;
- good fault-finding and problem-solving skills;
- a full UK driving licence;
- good written and verbal communication;
- the confidence to deal professionally with customers;
- the ability to work independently while knowing when to ask for help.
Experience with Emergency Lighting, Access Control, CCTV, Intruder Alarms, installation or commissioning would be useful, but isn’t essential.
What matters just as much to us is how you work.
We’re looking for someone reliable and trustworthy who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and wants to do things properly.
If you cut corners, dislike paperwork or simply want to get through as many jobs as possible, we’re probably not the right company for you.
If you care about leaving a system working properly, producing a decent report and giving a customer advice you can stand behind, there’s a good chance we’ll get along.
Salary & earning potential
We’re offering a basic salary of £38,000 – £42,000, depending on your existing experience and capability.
On top of your basic salary, you’ll participate in our structured and guaranteed company bonus scheme. Together with occasional paid call-outs, this means total earnings of up to £50,000 are realistically achievable.
We don’t want to advertise an unrealistic OTE based on engineers working excessive overtime. The majority of your earnings come from your basic salary and our bonus scheme, with call-outs being occasional rather than something you need to rely on to make the package worthwhile.
Working day & territory
This is a field-based role covering predominantly South East London, Bromley and North/West Kent.
Our working day is structured around engineers arriving at their first local appointment at 8:00am.
On a normal working day, 4:00pm is the latest we would expect you to remain on site, after which you travel home.
You’ll have a company van which you can take home, so there’s no requirement to travel into our Sevenoaks office at the beginning and end of every day.
There will naturally be occasional exceptions depending on the job, but we want engineers working sensible days within a sensible territory. Our view is that this is critical to you being able to offer consistently good service to our clients.

Where could the role take you?
This is particularly important to us.
We’re growing, and we want the people who join us now to have the opportunity to grow with the business.
That might mean becoming a stronger Fire Alarm Engineer with greater responsibility for complex faults and system upgrades.
It could mean developing your programming and commissioning skills and progressing towards becoming a Commissioning Engineer.
You may want to learn additional disciplines such as Access Control, CCTV or Intruder systems through a combination of formal external training and working alongside experienced members of our team.
Longer term, opportunities may develop to become a Senior Engineer, specialise technically, supervise projects, support and train other engineers or take on greater responsibility within the branch.
We can’t promise you a particular job title in a particular number of years.
What we can promise is that if you’re capable, interested and willing to learn, we won’t deliberately keep you doing the same thing year after year.
