About the role
Are you passionate about tackling domestic abuse and reducing the risk posed by those causing the most harm? Do you have the skills to engage, motivate and hold people accountable for change, while keeping survivors and children at the heart of your work?
Drive is Equation’s high risk / high harm domestic abuse perpetrator intervention. Its sole aim is to reduce the risk posed by those using the highest levels of harm towards family members and/or (ex)partners, through disruption, diversion and direct behaviour-change work, delivered within a multi-agency framework.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Equation, a Nottinghamshire based, award winning and innovative charity dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence and abuse.
The Government has confirmed the local government reorganisation of Nottinghamshire. The county’s nine existing councils will be replaced by two new unitary authorities, Greater Nottingham Council and Nottinghamshire Council, with shadow elections in May 2027 and full transfer of powers on 1 April 2028 (BBC News, “Nottingham boundary to expand under council shake-up”). We are building the Drive team around these new boundaries from the outset, so that our case management and partnership work keep pace with local structures as they change.
We are recruiting four Drive Case Managers, two dedicated to each of the two new council areas. Every post carries the same responsibilities, the same salary and the same terms; what differs is the geography you will cover and the partnership landscape you will work within. You will hold a caseload of high-risk perpetrators, working one-to-one where safe to do so, and will work closely with the local IDVA service, police, children’s social care and other statutory and voluntary agencies to reduce risk and improve outcomes for survivors and children.
The two areas
Greater Nottingham Council area (2 posts)
Geography covered: Nottingham city, together with the wards joining Greater Nottingham Council from Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.
Character of the work: A dense urban and suburban patch with shorter journeys, high case volume and a concentrated set of city-based partners and multi-agency structures.
Key partnership focus: City-based police teams, hospital and health partners, city children’s social care, housing providers and the city MARAC.
Travel : Extensive travel across the area; a full driving licence and access to a car are essential.
Nottinghamshire Council area (2 posts)
Geography covered
Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Newark & Sherwood, together with the wards of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe remaining outside Greater Nottingham
Character of the work
A largely market-town and rural patch with longer journeys, dispersed communities and a wider spread of partner agencies across former district boundaries
Key partnership focus
County-wide police districts, county children’s social care, district housing teams and the county MARAC arrangements
Travel
Extensive travel across a larger geography; a full driving licence and access to a car are essential
Because the new authorities do not formally take on services until 1 April 2028, you will initially work alongside the existing city, county, borough and district structures, and will help shape how Drive engages with the new authorities as they stand up.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of high-risk perpetrators of domestic abuse, providing an assertive, medium- to long-term service based on thorough risk and needs assessment.
- Use motivational work, relationship building and a broad range of therapeutic skills to engage Service Users in addressing their abusive behaviour.
- Develop strategies to disrupt the continued risk posed by Service Users, including where direct engagement with the perpetrator isn’t safe or possible.
- Work closely with the local IDVA service to review risk, develop safety plans and improve outcomes for survivors and children.
- Build and maintain effective multi-agency relationships across the designated area, acting as a single point of contact for professionals involved in each case.
- Represent the service at MARAC and other multi-agency meetings within the designated area.
- Work jointly with the second Case Manager in your area to share the caseload equitably and provide cover during leave and absence.
- Maintain accurate case records and enter required information onto Equation’s case management system.
- Complete the fully-funded OCN NCFE accredited Level 3 Drive Case Managers qualification in Domestic Abuse: Prevention and Early Intervention.
What we’re looking for
- Direct experience of working with vulnerable Service Users, ideally within a multi-agency public protection or safeguarding setting.
- A good understanding of domestic abuse, its impact on victims and children, and effective ways of engaging perpetrators.
- Confidence managing safeguarding issues, risk assessment and safety planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Resilience and skill in crisis management, and the ability to work calmly with conflict, challenge and trauma.
- The initiative to work independently across a wide geography, alongside the collaborative instinct to work as one team.
- A full driving licence, access to a motor vehicle, and willingness to travel extensively across your designated area.
- A relevant degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent experience.

Location: In person across the post holder’s designated council area, working from Equation offices, community venues and partner agency sites, with extensive travel required
Salary: £31,484.01 per annum
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term until 30 Sep 2027
