We're looking for a Lead Governance Associate (Assistant Company Secretary level) to join our expanding Group Governance Office.This is an exciting time to join the GGO as our remit continues to evolve, we're expanding our influence across the Society, helping to strengthen governance, improve decision-making and support organisational effectiveness.
This newly created role offers a broad mix of Board and Committee support, corporate governance, statutory compliance and governance improvement activities. Working closely with senior leaders and Non-Executive Directors, you'll help strengthen decision-making, ensure regulatory compliance and support the Society in maintaining the highest standards of governance.
About the Role
As a Lead Governance Associate, you'll support the delivery of effective corporate governance and help ensure the Society meets its statutory and regulatory obligations.
Working closely with governance leads and senior stakeholders, you'll coordinate governance activities, support high-quality decision making, maintain critical records and provide support across a broad range of governance activities.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop your governance and company secretarial expertise while working closely with senior executives, Non-Executive Directors and key stakeholders across the Society.
This is a varied role with exposure across the full governance spectrum. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the effective operation of the Board, Board Committees and executive governance forums.
Managing governance processes for meetings, including agenda planning, papers, actions and minutes.
Supporting directors' induction, training, development and Board effectiveness activities.
Maintaining and developing governance frameworks, policies and key constitutional documents.
Supporting statutory and regulatory compliance requirements, filings and corporate records management.
Contributing to the delivery of the Annual Report & Accounts and Annual General Meeting.
Supporting subsidiary governance and corporate transactions.
Providing governance advice and support to colleague across the Society.
Contributing to governance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
We're looking for an organised, proactive and highly professional individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working with senior stakeholders.
You'll bring:

Experience within a Corporate Secretariat or governance function, preferably in a regulated environment.
- A good understanding of corporate governance principles and practices, or a genuine desire to develop expertise in this area.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent written communication skills, including drafting minutes, reports and governance documentation.
- High levels of attention to detail and sound professional judgement.
- Confidence to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders and influence across the business.

A proactive approach to improving processes and ways of working.
Please Note: This is a hybrid role, requiring attendance in the office a minimum of one day per week, usually YBS office locations in Leeds and/or Bradford, with additional office attendance required in line with the Board and Committee calendar and other governance related engagements.
