An opportunity to work within one of Sussex’s most beautiful historic estates.
Firle Estate is looking for a reliable and professional Waking Night Porter to join our team and support guests staying at Firle Place and across the wider estate.
This is an active overnight position and the successful candidate will be expected to remain awake and available throughout each shift. You will be the main point of contact for guests outside normal office hours, helping to ensure they enjoy a safe, comfortable and memorable stay while providing reassurance, responding to enquiries and assisting with any issues or emergencies that may arise.
Working independently, you will also help maintain the security of the estate by monitoring security systems, carrying out routine property checks and ensuring our exceptionally high standards are maintained throughout the night.
Working Pattern
Friday: 6:00 pm to 6:00 am
Saturday: 6:00 pm to 7:00 am
A 30 minute unpaid break is included during each shift.
Please note: Due to the rural location of Firle Estate and the overnight working pattern, applicants must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to their own vehicle and be confident driving manual company vehicles as part of the role.
The Role Includes
- Acting as the main point of contact for guests overnight.
- Responding to guest enquiries and resolving issues.
- Carrying out routine security and property checks.
- Monitoring alarms and estate security systems.
- Opening, closing and securing designated buildings.
- Reporting maintenance issues and incidents.
- Driving manual company vehicles as part of operational duties where required.
- Supporting the smooth operation of accommodation and venue activities outside normal working hours.
We’re Looking For Someone Who
- Has experience within hospitality, guest services or another customer facing role.
- Holds a full clean UK driving licence.
- Has access to their own vehicle and is confident driving manual company vehicles as part of operational duties.
- Is calm, professional and approachable.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Can remain calm and practical when dealing with unexpected situations.
- Is reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently.
- Has a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Enjoys delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Hotels and hospitality.
- Guest accommodation and holiday lets.
- Historic houses and heritage properties.
- Country estates.
- Wedding venues and visitor attractions.
- Security or event operations.
- First Aid or Fire Marshal training.
