About us
WMS Projects Ltd is a Staffordshire gate company. We design, fabricate and install gates, railings, fencing and security bollards for homeowners and businesses across Staffordshire, the West Midlands and, on request, nationwide.
We fabricate steel, composite and bespoke gates in our own workshop in Burntwood, and supply the rest of our range through trusted manufacturing partners. That makes the work varied: swing gates, sliding and cantilever gates, railings, fencing, bollards, and a growing amount of automated gate work.
We are expanding our installation team and have a new van ready for the right person.
The role
You will be installing our products on customers' sites — setting posts, hanging and aligning gates, fitting locks and ironmongery, and finishing the job to a standard we are happy to put our name to.
In time, and alongside an experienced installation engineer, we want you to move onto automated gate installation — motors and operators, safety photocells and edges, control panels, cabling and commissioning. Automation is a growing part of our order book and it is a skill set that is genuinely in demand. If you already have some of it, that will be recognised in your salary. If you do not, we will train you.
Day to day you will be
- Installing swing, sliding and cantilever gates in steel, aluminium and composite
- Setting and concreting posts, levelling and setting out accurately
- Fitting railings, fencing and security bollards
- Fitting locks, drop bolts, gate stops and associated ironmongery
- Working towards installing and commissioning automated gate systems
- Dealing with customers on site professionally and leaving the site clean and tidy
- Recording site notes, completion photos and materials used on a simple phone-based system
What we are looking for
- A full UK driving licence — essential
- Practical, hands-on site experience. Gate or fencing experience is ideal, but we will happily consider people from carpentry, joinery, groundworks, landscaping, window and door installation, general building or a similar trade — if you can work accurately with tools on site, the gate side can be taught
- Confidence working on your own initiative and managing your own day
- Competence with a level, an SDS drill, a grinder, a breaker, a mixer and post-hole tools
- The ability to read and work to a drawing and a set of dimensions
- A tidy, professional manner — much of our work is at people's homes
- Reliability and pride in the finished job
Also useful, though not required
- Experience with electric or automated gates
- An electrical background of any kind — access control, alarms, EV charging, door entry
- MIG welding
What we offer
- £36,400 – £45,500 per year, depending on experience
- A company van, fuel card, tools and PPE
- Paid training in gate automation alongside an experienced installation engineer
- Steady, year-round work — we have a full order book and a strong pipeline
- A direct, straightforward company where you deal with the owners rather than several layers of management
- Real progression: we intend the right person to be leading automated gate installations in due course
