Hours: 37.5 per week (Mon-Thurs 08:00-16:15 Fri 08:00-15:00)
Primary Objective:
To receive, process and analyse paper, fibreglass and coil product samples, performing precise laboratory analysis, and experimental procedures, to drive product quality, compliance and continuous innovation. This role actively supports the maintenance and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) across all laboratory, quality and production workflows.
Key Tasks:
· Safely retrieve, inspect, and evaluate paper, fibreglass and coil product samples directly from production lines, to verify compliance with quality specifications.
· Conduct physical/chemical testing with high accuracy to generate reliable, reproducible data for quality control and new product development.
· Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards and experimental methodologies to test formulations, raw materials, and new product iterations.
· Oversee the safe intake, storage, and handling of laboratory chemicals. Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Certificates of Analysis (CoA) for all incoming raw materials.
· Inspect incoming raw materials and components upon arrival to ensure full alignment with agreed technical specifications.
· Collate, record, and interpret analytical data; immediately escalate non-conformances or out-of-spec products to the Quality Manager or Factory Manager using formal escalation channels.
· Adhere rigorously to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality management workflows, and established internal controls.
· Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory testing equipment to prevent measurement drift and ensure uninterrupted operational readiness.
· Maintain an immaculate, organised workspace adhering to 5S principles and workplace organisation protocols.
· Actively follow company Health, Safety, Hygiene, and Environmental policies, including proper PPE usage and strict adherence to hazardous waste disposal regulations.
· Work with shopfloor operators and technical teams to troubleshoot process anomalies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
· Provide hands-on assistance on the production line when operational needs arise, including packing, stand operation, and general shopfloor support to maintain smooth workflow efficiency.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
· Proven hands-on laboratory experience within a manufacturing, quality control, or industrial setting.
· Have practical experience of using gas chromatography methods.
· Self-motivated and capable of prioritizing tasks and making informed decisions with minimal direct supervision.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting non-conformances and liaising across production and management levels.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and Clarity (GC Software)
· Exceptional attention to detail with proven ability to extract, record, and interpret data accurately.
· Familiarity with GLP, standard test methods, SDS interpretation, and chemical handling regulations.
