About The Role
As the Head of Specialist Outreach, you will lead, develop and grow Nulogic's Specialist Outreach service, ensuring exceptional educational provision, strong stakeholder relationships, high-quality tutor performance and sustainable commercial growth.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire Specialist Outreach operation, from learner referrals and tutor deployment through to quality assurance, safeguarding, stakeholder management and business development.
You will be responsible for ensuring that learners receive high-quality, personalised educational support while simultaneously driving the continued growth of the department through strong relationships with schools, local authorities and other key partners.
Working closely with the Director of Education, you will lead a team of self-employed Outreach Tutors, continuously improve systems and processes, and position Specialist Outreach as a market-leading service across the Midlands.
Success in this role will be measured through learner outcomes, stakeholder satisfaction, tutor performance, operational efficiency, referral growth and the overall reputation of the Specialist Outreach service.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Management
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Specialist Outreach service.
- Recruit, induct, support and line manage Outreach Tutors, ensuring high standards of professionalism and performance.
- Conduct probation reviews, appraisals, performance management processes and CPD activities for all Outreach Tutors.
- Maintain oversight of learner allocations, tutor capacity and service delivery across the department.
- Ensure referrals are allocated efficiently and appropriately based on learner needs and tutor skillsets.
- Continuously review and improve Specialist Outreach systems, resources, communication processes and operational procedures to ensure the service remains efficient, scalable and industry-leading.
- Develop and maintain a positive team culture that reflects Nulogic's values and expectations.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the effective running of the department and wider organisation.
Business Development & Growth
- Drive the continued growth of the Specialist Outreach service through the development of strong relationships with schools, local authorities and other referral partners.
- Actively seek and secure new referrals and placement opportunities.
- Promote Specialist Outreach services to prospective stakeholders and partners.
- Attend networking events, meetings and presentations to raise awareness of the service and generate new opportunities.
- Develop strategic plans to support the sustainable growth of the department.
- Monitor market trends, local needs and emerging opportunities that may support future growth.
- Contribute to the wider commercial success of Nulogic by identifying opportunities for collaboration and service expansion.
Educational Quality & Curriculum Oversight
- Maintain oversight of curriculum delivery and educational standards across all Specialist Outreach placements.
- Conduct observations, learning reviews and quality assurance activities to ensure consistently high standards of delivery.
- Monitor learner progress, attendance, engagement and outcomes across the department.
- Support Outreach Tutors through coaching, feedback, training and the sharing of best practice.
- Ensure educational provision is personalised, learner-centred and aligned to individual needs and outcomes.
- Develop, implement and monitor learner support, progression and reintegration plans where appropriate, ensuring barriers to learning are addressed and learners are supported towards successful educational outcomes and reintegration pathways.
- Maintain oversight of reporting processes and ensure stakeholders receive high-quality updates and progress information.
- Work collaboratively with schools, local authorities and professionals to ensure positive outcomes for learners.
Safeguarding, SEND & Learner Welfare
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the Specialist Outreach service.
- Ensure safeguarding practices are robust, compliant and embedded throughout the department.
- Maintain oversight of safeguarding referrals, concerns and actions.
- Support Outreach Tutors in managing safeguarding concerns and learner welfare matters.
- Promote a culture where safeguarding, wellbeing and learner welfare remain at the forefront of decision-making.
- Maintain a strong understanding of SEND, SEMH and EBSA needs and ensure appropriate support strategies are implemented across placements.
Stakeholder Management & Partnerships
- Act as the lead point of contact for schools, local authorities, parents/carers and external professionals connected to Specialist Outreach placements.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with stakeholders to support learner outcomes and service growth.
- Attend and contribute to professional meetings, annual reviews, consultations and multi-agency discussions on behalf of Nulogic.
- Work collaboratively with SEND teams, social workers, educational psychologists and other professionals involved in learner support.
- Ensure high levels of stakeholder satisfaction through proactive communication and effective service delivery.
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Review tutor invoices to ensure accuracy and value for money.
- Monitor departmental budgets and expenditure in collaboration with the Directors.
- Ensure purchase orders are secured and maintained for all placements.
- Maintain oversight of placement profitability and resource allocation.
- Support forecasting, planning and operational decision-making through accurate reporting and data analysis.
- Ensure administrative processes are completed accurately and within required timescales.

Essential/Desirable Experience
Essential:
1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE qualification.
2. Significant experience working with children and young people with SEND, SEMH and EBSA needs.
3. Leadership or management experience within an educational setting.
4. Experience managing staff performance, development and accountability.
5. Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and statutory guidance.
6. Experience working collaboratively with schools, local authorities and external professionals.
7. Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
8. Strong understanding of educational quality assurance and learner outcomes.
9. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.
Desirable:
1. Previous SENCO experience.
2. Experience working within Alternative Provision or Specialist Outreach settings.
3. DSL qualification or advanced safeguarding training.
4. Experience managing self-employed staff or contractors.
5. Experience growing or developing an educational service or department.
6. Experience securing referrals, developing stakeholder relationships and driving service growth.
7. Experience overseeing budgets and operational performance.

Pay: £55,000.00-£80,000.00 per year
