Company Overview
Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Birmingham, specialising in the machining of large, complex and high-precision components for a variety of industries including Energy, Oil & Gas, Aerospace and Automotive.
Due to continued investment and a growing order book, they are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Machinist to join their skilled engineering team.
The Role
As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for setting, operating and, where applicable, programming large CNC machine tools to manufacture high-quality precision components.
The successful candidate will work with advanced CNC machining centres, including large-capacity milling machines with 3, 4 and 3+2 axis capability, C-axis machining, and equipment capable of handling components up to 12 tonnes and 8 metres in length.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision-engineered components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters and machining strategies.
- Produce components to tight tolerances while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Carry out in-process inspection using a range of measuring equipment.
- Machine a variety of materials including stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, super duplex and other specialist alloys.
- Identify and resolve machining issues to maintain production efficiency.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.
- Work closely with production and quality teams to achieve customer requirements and deadlines.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist within a precision engineering, heavy machining or similar environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of machining techniques, tooling and cutting parameters.
- Experience setting and operating large CNC machine tools.
- Ability to work with tight tolerances and maintain high-quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable Experience
- Experience machining large fabricated or cast components.
- CNC programming experience.
- Experience working with specialist materials such as titanium, Inconel or super duplex.
- Previous experience within heavy engineering sectors.
