We’re looking for an interesting, reliable, kind, fun-loving support worker with a great sense of humour, for a young adult male with complex health needs and SEN. A shared interest in his hobbies is a bonus and will go a long way — he loves gaming, drumming, cars, music, socialising, and biking, along with a real interest in policing, medical topics, Cold War history, and farming and agriculture. He lives in his own home with a therapy dog who plays a key role in his wellbeing.
Personality fit is everything. This role needs someone who genuinely shares his interests, and can build real trust and rapport — it’s not a conventional clock-in care/support job, a skill set and getting to understand subtle nuances is key to support, a real position of trust requiring professional standards and safeguarding practice.
Would suit someone already studying or working who wants a second role that’s flexible, different, and genuinely rewarding.
You’ll need:
- At least 6 months’ evidenced experience supporting people with complex needs (SEN/healthcare background desirable)
- Confidence learning and managing occasional behaviours that challenge
- Comfort around dogs and caring for them
- Willingness and ability to train in a number of in-depth safeguarding, first aid, and bespoke medical behaviour management training
- Agreement to an Enhanced DBS check and references
- A car driver of at least 6 months
- Live a maximum of 20 minutes away from Cambridge city
- Work closely with family and other team members
- Ability to cook with confidence
