This is an exciting time to join us as a Regional Fleet Engineering Manager, in this role you will lead the delivery of fleet engineering strategy across Vehicle Maintenance Units (VMUs), fleet assets, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE), ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, cost-effective, and operational.
Working closely with operational leaders and key stakeholders, you will drive engineering excellence, manage budgets, uphold legal and safety standards, optimise asset costs and provide clear leadership to teams. The role is central to achieving business objectives, fostering strong relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers, and supporting a high-performing, compliant operation.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING?
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Lead and manage a cluster of VMU operations, ensuring high-performing teams, effective resource planning, and delivery of agreed service levels across the region.
- Drive engineering excellence through continuous improvement initiatives, cost reduction programmes, and collaboration with operational teams to optimise fleet performance.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, legal requirements, safety standards, MOT regulations, and engineering best practices.
- Oversee the full vehicle lifecycle, including fleet integration, asset disposal, maintenance planning, and engineering administration.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and industry bodies to support operational and business objectives.
- Manage performance, employee relations, and staff development through coaching, objective setting, succession planning, and adherence to company procedures.
- Deliver accurate operational reporting, investigate and resolve engineering and safety issues, and provide timely management information to support decision-making.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR?
Your skills and experience will include:
- Extensive engineering management experience, ideally within fleet, transport, logistics, or a related operational environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of vehicle maintenance, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), fleet compliance, and sustainable engineering practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, manage complex projects, and allocate resources effectively to meet operational objectives.
- Proven experience in budget management, cost control, asset optimisation, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across all levels of the business and with external partners.
- Experience operating within a unionised environment, with a strong understanding of employee relations and performance management.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, legal compliance, and the application of industry best practices to maintain high operational standards.
