About the role
Keynetics is looking for a practical, dependable and self-motivated Installation & Field Service Technician to join our small installation team.
We provide secure key-management technology to organisations across the UK and Ireland. Our field technicians are responsible for installing and supporting our equipment at customer premises and are an important part of the service our customers receive.
This is a hands-on role, but it involves much more than using tools.
You will travel independently to customer sites, assess the installation environment, carry out installations safely and accurately, commission devices using our mobile systems, complete the required digital records and maintain regular communication with our Operations team.
We provide full training on Keynetics products and processes. However, because you will progress to independent field work relatively quickly, we are looking for someone who already has good practical ability, confidence using tools, strong personal organisation and experience of taking responsibility for their own work.
Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer is not essential.
What a typical field day looks like
Your working day will usually involve travelling to a planned schedule of customer installations.
Before leaving you will ensure your company vehicle, tools and allocated stock are ready for the work ahead.
At each customer site you will:
- review the job and customer requirements;
- complete a digital site risk assessment;
- check that the proposed installation can be carried out safely;
- install the equipment using the appropriate tools and fixings;
- commission the device using our mobile application;
- communicate with our Malvern Operations team during the installation;
- raise any site, customer or technical issue before it becomes a problem;
- complete installation records and required photographs;
- ensure the installation has been correctly recorded before leaving site.
You may complete several installations during a working day before either travelling to a pre-arranged hotel or returning to Malvern.
Installation and field responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Installing Keynetics key-management systems at customer premises.
- Carrying out planned maintenance and service visits.
- Using drills, hand tools and appropriate fixings to complete secure installations.
- Assessing installation locations and recognising when a site or fixing surface may not be suitable.
- Working safely around customer property and identifying potential health and safety risks.
- Following defined installation and quality procedures.
- Commissioning installed devices using smartphone-based applications.
- Completing final checks before leaving site.
- Diagnosing straightforward installation or product issues.
- Knowing when to stop and contact the Operations or Technical team for guidance.
- Maintaining a professional standard of workmanship and leaving customer sites clean and tidy.
The installation itself requires care and accuracy. For example, the approved substrate and fixing method are important to maintaining the security certification of the equipment.
Administration and communication
Accurate record keeping is an important part of the role.
You will also be responsible for:
- Completing daily vehicle safety checks.
- Recording vehicle mileage.
- Reviewing installation information through Monday.com.
- Completing digital site risk assessments.
- Taking and uploading installation photographs.
- Recording work completed and any issues encountered.
- Keeping the Operations team updated when plans or site circumstances change.
- Reporting faults, customer concerns or installation problems promptly.
- Looking after company tools, equipment, stock and vehicle.

Essential requirements
- Full UK driving licence.
- Confident using basic hand and power tools.
- Previous experience in a practical, installation, maintenance, service or similarly hands-on role.
- Comfortable working independently at customer sites.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Able to complete digital forms and records accurately.
- Willing and able to travel throughout the UK and occasionally Ireland.
- Comfortable with regular overnight hotel stays.
- Able to pass the required DBS/background checks.
Backgrounds that may suit this role
You may already work, or have previously worked, in:
- installation;
- property or facilities maintenance;
- telecoms or broadband installation;
- security, CCTV or access control;
- fire and security systems;
- automotive or vehicle fitting;
- equipment servicing;
- mechanical maintenance;
- construction or fit-out;
- appliance repair;
- mobile service work;
- another practical customer-facing role.
You do not need previous experience with Keynetics products.
Training and becoming independent
You will initially receive office-based training on our products, systems, installation procedures and safety requirements.
You will then work alongside an experienced Keynetics installer to complete installations in the field.
As soon as you have demonstrated that you can:
- complete a standard installation correctly;
- work safely;
- follow the required process;
- communicate appropriately with customers and the office;
- complete the required records; and
- recognise when to ask for assistance,
you will begin completing suitable installations independently, with full support from our Operations and Technical teams whenever required.
This role therefore suits someone who learns quickly and is comfortable taking responsibility once trained.
Travel – please read before applying
This is an important part of the role.
You will travel regularly throughout the UK and occasionally Ireland.
The working pattern can include:
- substantial driving;
- early starts;
- changing customer locations;
- overnight hotel stays;
- consecutive days away from home;
- variable finishing times depending on customer appointments and travel.
Hotels are arranged in advance and business travel and accommodation costs are covered by Keynetics.
