You will work as a member of the maternity team, supporting the midwifery staff and assisting the care needs of women and their babies. Providing support and guidance to colleagues, contribute to on-going assessment and recognition of times when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment or for expert help and advice.
The post will include working all shifts patterns, including bank holidays and nights in hospital and community settings.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
The role of MSWs, Band 3, is to undertake, under the direction and supervision of a registered midwife, tasks and duties for which midwifery training and registration are not required (either by statute or professional guidance). MSWs will have completed the necessary education programme which enables them to complement the care that midwives provide to mothers and their families, responsibly and safely. We will support to candidates wishing to commence or complete their competency framework. Following completion of a competency framework, conduct clinical skills below independently under the indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.

Obtain capillary sample of maternal blood for glucose analysis
Perform Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Apply transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation machine
Process fetal scalp/umbilical pH
Assist mothers with postnatal exercises
Inform parents about the benefits of breastfeeding
Position and comfort of breastfeeding women including the position and attachment of the baby
Support women with hand expression of breast milk.
Assist women to use breast pumps
Support mothers to cup feed
Support women with their choice of infant feeding
Discuss changing stool and micturition of normal neonate.
