The Production Operator runs the production line on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the line team of 4–5 line workers maintain the required pace and output, product quality is maintained, and all quality control and food safety paperwork is completed accurately throughout the shift.
Key Responsibilities
· Run and operate the production line, carrying out line set-up, changeovers, and shutdown correctly and efficiently.
· Ensure the line team of 4–5 line workers maintain the required line pace and output to meet planned daily production targets.
· Monitor product quality throughout the shift, ensuring products are manufactured in accordance with BRCGS, HACCP, and site quality procedures, and that hygiene and GMP standards are maintained.
· Accurately complete QC reports and CCP (Critical Control Point) paperwork in line with HACCP requirements, escalating any deviations promptly.
· Adhere to health & safety compliance, including toolbox talks, risk assessments, and immediate reporting of near-misses or incidents to the Production Manager/Team Leader.
· Provide on-the-job guidance and basic coaching to line workers, including supporting the induction of new starters.
· Support a positive, engaged team culture and act as a role model for site standards and behaviours on the line.
· Report faults on plant, equipment, and PPE promptly, liaising with Engineering on breakdowns.
· Identify production issues on the line and support the Production Manager/Team Leader in resolving them to minimise downtime.
Essential
· Reliable, motivated individual with good communication skills and a positive attitude.
· Experience working as a Production Operative within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or fast-paced production environment.
· Working knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and quality standards (HACCP, BRCGS, or equivalent).
· Basic understanding of health & safety practices and safe systems of work.
· Able to work well as part of a team and help the line maintain a consistent pace and output.
· Comfortable completing routine written checks, QC reports, and CCP paperwork accurately
Desirable
- Experience in a chilled/ambient food production or fresh food environment.
- Prior experience operating at Production Operator level or equivalent.
- ERP / WMS knowledge and exposure to using a WMS (Warehouse Management System).
- Food allergen awareness
