Kitchen Assistant / Kitchen Porter
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant / Porter to join our team. This is a paid position offering an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy hospitality environment while supporting the day-to-day operations of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive, and eager to develop their skills within the culinary and hospitality industry.
Duties
- Assist with food preparation under the supervision of the chefs, including chopping vegetables, peeling potatoes, and preparing ingredients.
- Operate commercial deep fryers safely and confidently, following kitchen procedures.
- Assist with grilling and preparing meat as required.
- Support chefs during food service while maintaining a clean and organised workstation.
- Help prepare and serve the variety of traditional Bolivian dishes offered by the restaurant. Previous knowledge of Bolivian cuisine is not required, as full training will be provided.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times.
- Organise and store stock and ingredients correctly.
- Assist with setting up and clearing dining areas before and after service when required.
- Dispose of waste appropriately and keep the kitchen free from hazards.
- Carry out general kitchen porter duties to ensure smooth daily operations.
Skills & Requirements
- Previous experience in a kitchen, restaurant, hotel, or catering environment is desirable but not essential. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are more important.
- Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment safely, including deep fryers and professional kitchen knives.
- Confidence working with sharp kitchen knives and following safe knife-handling practices.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to keep the kitchen clean and well organised at all times.
- A team player with a positive attitude and good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new cooking techniques and become familiar with our traditional Bolivian menu.
- Spanish language skills are essential, as communication within the kitchen is primarily in Spanish.
