Position: Part-Time Temporary Sales Assistant
Hours: Tuesday 8:30am–6:00pm and Sunday 10:00am–6:00pm
Pay: £12.75 per hour, paid monthly on the last working day of each month
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, flexible and hardworking Part-Time Temporary Sales Assistant to join our team.
This is a varied, hands-on role involving customer service, stock management, cleaning, deliveries and general shop duties. The successful candidate must be physically fit and comfortable with heavy lifting and manual work.
Main Duties
- Providing excellent customer service
- Serving customers and operating the till
- Handling cash and carrying out cashing-up procedures
- Opening and closing the shop
- Receiving, checking and putting away deliveries
- Assisting with the Sunday delivery
- Stocking shelves and keeping the shop fully stocked
- Checking product dates and carrying out stock rotation
- Cleaning and maintaining the shop to a high standard
- Undertaking all general shop duties as required
- Carrying out manual handling and heavy lifting where required
- Covering staff holidays and sickness when needed
- Working flexibly to support the day-to-day running of the shop
- Carrying out other reasonable duties required to keep the shop running efficiently
Strict ID & Age-Verification Policy
We operate a strict “No ID, No Sale” policy which must be adhered to at all times.
The successful candidate must:
- Follow the “No ID, No Sale” policy without exception
- Ask for valid identification if the customer appears under 25 years old
- Refuse the sale if the customer cannot provide physical ID
- Be confident in challenging customers and checking identification
- Follow all company procedures relating to age-restricted sales
Failure to follow the “No ID, No Sale” policy will not be acceptable & employment would be terminated immediately.
About You
The successful candidate will be:
- Reliable and punctual
- Flexible and willing to cover holidays and sickness where possible
- Physically fit and comfortable with heavy lifting
- Friendly, approachable and confident with customers
- Honest and trustworthy, particularly when handling cash
- Organised and able to work efficiently in a busy environment
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Undertake all cleaning and general shop duties as part of the role
- Confident using a till and handling cash
- Committed to following the strict “No ID, No Sale” policy at all times
Previous retail or newsagents experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided to the right person.
