Overview
Reporting to the Fulfilment Manager (FM), the Packing Assistant (PA) is responsible for ensuring that trade and retail orders are dispatched promptly to meet delivery service levels.
The PA will maintain a level of flexibility to assist in other areas of the business as required – assembly of the South Devon Chilli Farm product range, specifically focusing on the SDCF gift range, seeds, and dried chillies, and assisting across the business in various departments as required. During harvest season assistance will be provided to the horticultural team with fruit picking as well as end of season clearing and preparation work for the new season.
The PA’s time and responsibilities will be managed day to day by the Fulfilment Manager. The PA’s formal line manager for HR will be the Operations Manager.
The PA role will keep regular AM hours to fit around courier schedules (approx. 8am-12pm), 5 days per week. Overtime may be required during the year, most regularly in May and December.

Fulfilment:
- Carrying out retail and wholesale order fulfilment
- Ensuring all orders are fulfilled in full and on-time, in line with company service level standards
- Flagging any order discrepancies with the FM
- Accurate recording of batch codes for trade order fulfilment
- Preparing palletised goods for the Fulfilment Manager to sign-off before dispatch
- Meet regularly with the FM to ensure smooth running of the department
Stock Management:
- Ensure daily restock of the fulfilment area for processing of orders
- Liaise with shop team for storage of shared stock
- Assist the team in keeping stock levels up-to-date on the website to prevent loss of sales or backordering
- Notify the FM of any low stock materials or finished product
Production & Assembly:
- Carry out assembly/packing for the SDCF gift range, seeds and whole dried & powdered chillies, maintaining working stock levels across all lines at all times
- Work with the OM to ensure project deadlines are met i.e. Xmas stock building
- Ensure daily production targets are met for each SKU
- Flag any raw material issues with the OM
- Be on the lookout for pinch points in the production and assembly processes and work with the OM to solve these
Fruit Picking/Site Maintenance:
- To support the horticultural team during harvest season with fruit picking as required
- Ensure fresh chillies are washed, recorded & stored correctly ready for use in the production kitchen
- Assist in tunnel clearing at the end of the season ensuring health & safety measures are followed including the correct use of PPE
- Assist in tunnel preparation ahead of the new growing season ensuring health & safety measures are followed including the correct use of PPE
- Daily cleaning of the warehouse fulfilment area
Other:
- To support the business in other areas as required which may include manning the stands at events (ie. during xmas markets)
- Be on staff cleaning rota for communal areas
