Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and inspirational Deputy Nursery Manager to join our leadership team from September 2026.
This is a unique opportunity for a strong early years professional who is passionate about raising the quality of teaching and learning, developing staff, and ensuring children receive exceptional early education experiences.
Working alongside the Nursery Manager, this role will have a particular focus on the educational quality of the setting, while the Nursery Manager leads on the operational and administrative aspects of the nursery.
About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will be responsible for driving high-quality practice throughout the nursery by supporting, mentoring, and coaching staff to continually improve their skills and confidence.
You will spend much of your time working directly with teams within rooms, observing practice, identifying strengths and areas for development, and ensuring our curriculum is delivered effectively to meet the needs of all children.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead on teaching, learning, and curriculum implementation across the nursery.
* Conduct regular room quality audits and learning environment checks.
* Observe staff practice and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
* Mentor Room Leaders and practitioners to develop their skills and confidence.
* Support staff through supervisions, action plans, and professional development.
* Ensure children’s learning journeys, assessments, and planning are of a high standard.
* Monitor the quality of interactions and support staff in developing strong communication skills.
* Drive continuous improvement and support the nursery’s quality improvement plans.
* Support with Ofsted preparation and maintaining outstanding standards.
* Work alongside the Nursery Manager to ensure the nursery operates effectively and achieves its goals.
* Act as the Manager in their absence when required.
Essential Requirements
✔ Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (Level 5 preferred)
✔ Strong knowledge of the EYFS, Development Matters, and child development
✔ Previous leadership experience within an early years setting
✔ Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting staff development
✔ Excellent communication and leadership skills
✔ Passion for improving outcomes for children through high-quality practice
