We are looking for an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to oversee our transport operations, ensuring our fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all relevant legislation.

The Role
As our Transport Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of our transport function, including our vehicle fleet, drivers, and Transport Planner. You will play a key role in ensuring vehicles are utilised effectively, legal obligations are met, and our transport operation supports the successful delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily transport operation to maximise vehicle utilisation and operational efficiency.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of drivers and the Transport Planner.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, driver hours regulations, and all relevant transport legislation.
- Oversee fleet maintenance schedules, vehicle roadworthiness, and compliance documentation.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and non-conformances, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Monitor transport KPIs and produce regular operational and performance reports.
- Manage transport budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with the Transport Planner, operational teams, and commercial teams to ensure outstanding service delivery.
- Promote a strong culture of health, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the transport function.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Transport Manager or in a senior transport supervisory role.
- A valid Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (Transport Manager CPC).
- Strong knowledge of Operator Licence compliance, driver hours regulations, and UK transport legislation.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
- Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of compliance and customer service.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience managing a mixed vehicle fleet.
- Knowledge of fleet maintenance planning and transport compliance systems.
- Previous experience within the road surfacing, highways, or construction industry.
