Yarn Twisting machine Operative - Job Overview
Efficiently and accurately operate the Twisting and Winding Machines.
Responsibilities and Duties
Twisting
· Set up machines correctly and ensure yarns are being twisted correctly.
· Ensure correct weights are met – report discrepancies to the Twisting Supervisor/Yarnstore Manager.
· Correct knot tying.
· Machine minding/patrolling.
· Check quality of yarn being made, recognize changes in colour and thickness.
Winding
· Wind yarn on to cone whilst checking quality of the yarn.
· Ensure the correct tension is on the cone.
· Check dyed yarn has been dyed correctly and is not off shade.
· Ensure knots are small and tails are cut as short as possible.
· Steam yarn as required.
· Adhere to safety instructions, risk assessments and safety legislation.
· Ensure general cleanliness of work area and maintain good daily housekeeping routine.
· Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.
· Any other duties that are deemed necessary to fulfil the needs of the business.
Knowledge and Skills
· Knowledge of yarns/textile industry is preferred but full training will be given.
· Attention to detail:
· Good eyesight with ability to notice and feel difference in shade and quality.
· Accuracy and good numeracy skills with the ability to work out weights.
· Computer literate with accurate data entry. Training will be given on software used.
· Excellent manual dexterity, ability to complete knot tying accurately.
· Good communication skills.
· Maintain a good level of general health/fitness; ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time and manual handling are key parts of this role.
