Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for directing the overall maintenance strategy, plant reliability, and engineering. Overseeing a team of Maintenance engineers and assistants, the Maintenance Manager ensures maximum equipment availability, by setting up and maintaining detailed PPMs, stock control on spare parts and smooth operation of the Maintenance room. A robust Health, Safety, and Environmental practices must also be maintained and briefed out to the team in co-ordination with the Health & Safety Manager on site. This role acts as the key technical authority on site and leads continuous improvement across all processing assets.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Leadership
- Oversee the complete maintenance, repair, and long-term reliability of all operational equipment and machinery.
- Build, lead, expand, and continuously optimise planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules in line with manufacturer guidelines and best practices.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for mechanical, electrical, and PLC/automation breakdowns to minimize site downtime via accrued knowledge or external contractor management.
- Direct daily inspections of critical plant, equipment, and utility infrastructure to ensure full operational readiness.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team, including maintenance engineers and assistants.
- Conduct planning, shift scheduling, performance management, training, and recruitment for the maintenance department.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on technical accountability, prompt root-cause troubleshooting, and continuous skill improvement.
- Champion site values and establish clear operational standards across all maintenance shifts.
Maintenance & Reliability
- Drive equipment performance metrics and implement proactive reliability strategies to reduce recurring mechanical and electrical faults.
- Oversee spare parts inventory management, critical components stocking, tool sign-in/sign-out controls, and supplier vendor relationships.
- Manage contractor activities, third-party specialist engineering services from scope definition through to completion.
- Manage shift handovers, operational continuous improvement, and ensure seamless continuity of engineering support
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Champion a strict safety-first culture across all engineering activities, enforcing full compliance with site HSE policies, permit-to-work systems, safe isolation (LOTO), and COSHH.
- Working with H&S manager to perform risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safety audits for maintenance operation.
- Ensure all engineering areas remain clean, safe, organized, and free from hazards (5S standard).
- Oversee external contractor compliance regarding PPE, induction protocols, and site sign-in requirements.
Cost Control & Continuous Improvement
- Manage the maintenance operational budget, including tools, spare parts procurement and contractor spend.
- Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives, equipment upgrade strategies, and asset modifications to improve processing throughput and efficiency.
- Prepare, track, and present maintenance KPIs, downtime reporting, and budget performance to senior management.
Pay: £48,000.00-£51,000.00 per year
