We are looking for a hard working, reliable kennel hand to join our small, friendly team. The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar role and/or have previous experience working with dogs, preferably racing greyhounds. The role entails the care and welfare of all greyhounds in our kennel, which includes daily cleaning, feeding, exercising, administering medication and maintenance grooming.
The role may also include assisting and transporting dogs to the track on race days, so a clean valid driving licence is essential.
Previous experience working in a professional greyhound racing kennel would be advantageous but not necessarily required.
We are offering a part time position with multiple shifts (plus holiday cover hours where available). The candidate must be fully flexible to work Monday-Sunday, weekends where required and happy to work evenings. Consistency and reliability are extremely important to us, to maintain excellent standards of welfare for our dogs.
Examples of shift times may range from half day shifts from 8.30-11.30am or 11.30-15.00pm, and 6.30pm - 8.30pm for evenings. Shifts to be worked will be scheduled around track race days. The applicant must be comfortable working alone and with other members of the team.
Opportunity for more hours also available when providing holiday cover.
The candidate must have a valid and clean driving license, due to the rural location of the kennels.
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care for all dogs in the kennel
- Feed, water and exercise dogs according to their specific needs
- Daily deep clean and sanitise kennel areas, including kennels, bedding, and common areas
- Monitor the health and behaviour of dogs and report any concerns to the trainer
- Assist with grooming tasks such as bathing, brushing, and nail trimming
- Administer medications or treatments as directed by the veterinarian or supervisor
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and any observations or incidents
- Assist on race days at the racetrack
Experience:
- Previous experience working with dogs/racing greyhounds in a professional setting preferred
- Knowledge of animal behaviour, health, and basic care practices
- Strong communication skills to interact with owners and team members effectively
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Note: This position may require moderate lifting and can be a physically demanding role at times due to working in various outdoor climates.
If you are reliable, passionate about dogs and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you with the potential of joining our team.
Please submit your CV/and or a brief description of your previous experience.
