ROLE PURPOSE
The Dispatch Porter is responsible for supporting the Dispatch Team by ensuring packing stations remain fully stocked, organised, clean and ready for continuous operation.
The key purpose of the role is to keep our packers packing. The Dispatch Porter should proactively identify what the team needs and replenish packaging and consumables before they run out, reducing unnecessary downtime and helping the department achieve its productivity targets.
The role requires someone who is proactive, organised and able to work at pace without needing to be continually directed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Packing Station Replenishment
- Continuously monitor packing stations throughout the shift.
- Keep all stations stocked with the correct packing boxes.
- Replenish tape and other packing consumables.
- Ensure blue roll and other permitted cleaning consumables are available when required.
- Refill designated packaging trolleys whenever spaces become available.
- Bring packaging stock from storage areas to Dispatch as required.
- Ensure the correct packaging is placed in the correct designated location.
- Anticipate requirements rather than waiting for a packer to run out of something.
- Escalate low packaging or consumable stock to the appropriate Team Leader before it affects production.
Supporting Dispatch Flow
- Keep packers supplied so they can remain at their workstations wherever practicable.
- Move completed parcels, cages, trolleys or other items to their designated areas as required.
- Remove empty boxes, packaging materials and waste promptly.
- Keep walkways and working areas clear.
- Return empty trolleys, crates and equipment to their designated locations.
- Support the movement of packaging and materials around the Dispatch and Warehouse areas.
- Respond quickly to requests from the Dispatch Team Leader where they affect the smooth running of Dispatch.
- Identify potential bottlenecks and take proactive action within the responsibilities of the role.
Housekeeping & Organisation
- Maintain a clean, tidy and organised Dispatch area throughout the shift.
- Follow the site's Clean As You Go standards.
- Ensure packaging storage areas remain organised.
- Flatten and dispose of cardboard and packaging waste using the correct waste streams.
- Return equipment to its designated storage location after use.
- Ensure fire exits, pedestrian routes and access points remain unobstructed.
- Report damaged equipment, packaging or unsafe conditions immediately.
Food Safety, Health & Safety
- Follow all company food safety, hygiene and health & safety procedures.
- Wear the required PPE.
- Follow manual-handling procedures when moving packaging, stock, trolleys or other loads.
- Only use equipment for which appropriate training or authorisation has been provided.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and comply with site hygiene requirements.
- Immediately report hazards, near misses, accidents or food-safety concerns.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Success in this role should be visible through:
- Packing stations remaining consistently stocked.
- Minimal packer downtime caused by missing packaging or consumables.
- Packaging being replenished before it runs out.
- Trolleys and designated stock locations being refilled promptly.
- A clean and well-organised Dispatch area.
- Low levels of packaging-related disruption.
- Good communication with packers and Dispatch leadership.
- Proactive identification and resolution of problems.
The Dispatch Porter plays an important role in supporting the department's targets. The Porter is not measured simply by how much stock they move, but by how effectively they enable the packing team to work efficiently.

Previous warehouse, dispatch, production or porter experience would be beneficial but is not essential, as training will be provided.

THE STANDARD WE EXPECT
A successful Dispatch Porter should be thinking one step ahead of the packing team.
If a packaging location is becoming empty, refill it.
If consumables are becoming low, replenish them.
If waste is building up, remove it.
If something is going to interrupt packing, take action or raise it.
The objective is simple:
Keep the Dispatch area organised, keep the packing stations supplied and keep our packers packing.
