Overview
Phelippeau London is seeking an exceptionally skilled and experienced Curtain Maker to join our workshop. We produce bespoke, luxury soft furnishings to the highest standards, and are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their craftsmanship.
Outstanding hand stitching skills are essential. Much of our work requires invisible hand sewing and meticulous finishing, so this role is only suitable for candidates with extensive experience producing high-end, handmade curtains.
Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years' professional experience in bespoke curtain making.
Responsibilities
- Measure, mark and cut fabrics accurately to specification.
- Produce luxury bespoke curtains to an exceptional standard.
- Carry out extensive hand stitching, including invisible hems, hand-sewn headings, joins and detailed finishing.
- Operate industrial sewing machines confidently and accurately.
- Work with a wide range of fabrics, including delicate silks, linens, velvets, sheers, wools and patterned fabrics.
- Ensure every curtain meets the highest standards of quality, precision and finish.
- Read and interpret workroom instructions, measurements and technical drawings.
- Maintain a clean, organised and efficient workspace.
- Assist with fabric handling, stock control and workshop organisation when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience making bespoke curtains in a professional workroom.
- Exceptional hand stitching skills are essential and will be assessed during the interview process.
- Experience producing luxury, high-end curtains by hand.
- Excellent knowledge of all curtain headings, linings, interlinings and traditional curtain-making techniques.
- Ability to work confidently with all fabric types.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing flawless work.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Reliable, punctual and able to meet production deadlines without compromising quality.
Desirable
- Experience working within a luxury interiors or bespoke soft furnishings company.
- Experience making blinds, pelmets and other soft furnishings.
- Knowledge of pattern matching and fabric calculations.
