About the role/family: SENNIES is delighted to support a warm family of seven seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sennie to provide sole care for their 13-year-old daughter, G13. She is one of five siblings and benefits greatly from one-to-one support as the family continues to thrive following the loss of their dad in 2017.
G13 is bright, unique, and supported by tailored strategies developed with specialist practitioners. The Sennie will help implement these strategies, offering calm, structured guidance as G13 builds independence, navigates daily life, and develops essential life skills. Key duties include supporting her emotional regulation, encouraging her to try new activities, revisiting challenges constructively, and assisting with routines such as personal care, meal prep, and skills-building tasks. Close collaboration with her mum is essential for consistent support.
For live-in candidates, the family offers exclusive use of a large room in their spacious six-bedroom Edwardian home with off-street parking. They are also open to expediting plans for a private garden annex. The home features a relaxing private garden and is ideally located in Summertown, Oxford, just minutes from shops, cafés, restaurants, and excellent transport links to the city centre.
The family seeks someone patient, adaptable, proactive, and genuinely passionate about helping G13 grow. Experience in childcare, SEN, or behaviour support is a bonus, but a caring, committed approach is most important.
About the child/children: G13 is a vibrant, creative 13-year-old who loves arts, crafts, drawing, and especially octopuses—a fascination sparked by a reversible octopus toy that reflects emotions. She is physically capable, once excelling in gymnastics, and is developing in many typical ways for her age. While eager to assert her independence, she also enjoys younger-style activities such as stuffed toys and playful silliness.
She is part of a loving family, including her twin sister who is progressing typically through secondary school. G13’s development has been more gradual, and at times appears to regress. She experiences demand avoidance and can become anxious or aggressive when bored or overwhelmed. Though self-aware and able to discuss her feelings, she needs support to turn this insight into effective coping strategies.
G13 attends a specialised school for autistic children, where she is settled, sociable, and has good friends. She communicates best one-to-one in calm environments, showing strong articulation, perception, and memory. While emotional regulation can be difficult in the moment, she often reflects clearly afterward.
A Sennie will play a key role in supporting G13’s growth by providing a calm, structured, predictable environment. Encouraging her independence, confidence, and social skills will be central, alongside strategies for managing demand avoidance and anxiety. Keeping her engaged through creative activities, new experiences, and supportive social guidance will help her thrive. With the right approach, G13 has tremendous potential, and the Sennie will be instrumental in helping her build resilience, emotional regulation, and independence.
