We are seeking a Desktop Support Technician to provide hands-on technical support to employees within a manufacturing environment. The role is based onsite at AMT's Sheffield, UK facility and is responsible for providing responsive, reliable desktop and end-user support while working closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and other business functions.
The technician will work as part of the broader AMT IT organisation, collaborating with IT colleagues and supporting users at other AMT locations as required. The role operates within established IT standards, service management practices, cybersecurity requirements, and priorities established by IT leadership.
Key Duties:
· Provide onsite, hands-on technical support for employees at the Sheffield manufacturing facility, resolving incidents and service requests through the IT ticketing system.
· Troubleshoot Windows desktops and laptops, printers, monitors, peripherals, mobile devices, software, user access, and common connectivity issues.
· Provide clear, professional support in person, by phone, and through remote support or web conferencing.
· Support users with commercial software applications and provide basic user guidance and training as appropriate.
· Support remote users and other AMT locations as assigned.
· Provide IT support to manufacturing and operational areas, including troubleshooting technology used to support production and business processes.
· Work with Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other site personnel to troubleshoot technology-related issues affecting business or production activities.
· Coordinate with infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, and other IT personnel when issues involve network, server, application, security, or production-system dependencies.
· Work safely and professionally in manufacturing areas and follow all AMT site safety requirements, including required PPE and access procedures.
· Perform routine administration of user accounts, access, groups, permissions, and related desktop support functions in accordance with AMT policies and procedures.
· Support Microsoft Windows environments, Active Directory, endpoint management/imaging tools, mobile device management, and other approved desktop technologies.
· Assist with device deployment, configuration, imaging, replacement, and lifecycle activities.
· Support secure handling of company systems, accounts, devices, and information in accordance with AMT cybersecurity requirements.
· Maintain accurate records of computers, monitors, peripherals, mobile devices, software, and other IT equipment.
· Assist with hardware deployment, moves, refreshes, repairs, replacements, and disposal activities.
· Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, asset changes, and other relevant information in the IT service management system.
· Assist in developing and maintaining IT procedures, knowledge articles, technical documentation, and user guidance.
· Monitor and manage assigned tickets through resolution, maintaining appropriate communication with users and support teams.
· Participate in scheduled maintenance activities and planned technology changes.
· Support IT projects, implementations, upgrades, and site initiatives as assigned.
· Collaborate with IT colleagues across AMT locations to provide consistent and effective support.
You will also be required to occasionally travel to other AMT locations internationally as required and occasionally work outside normal working hours, including weekends, when required for
maintenance, projects, or critical business/production support.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
· Relevant technical qualification, apprenticeship, college qualification, or equivalent practical experience in IT, computer systems, or a related discipline.
· Previous experience in a desktop support, service desk, IT support, or similar technical support role.
· Hands-on experience troubleshooting Windows desktops and laptops, printers, peripherals, mobile devices, and common software issues.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, endpoint/device management, and basic network troubleshooting.
· Experience using an IT service desk or ticketing system and working to defined service levels.
· Ability to troubleshoot problems systematically, identify root causes, and escalate issues appropriately.
· Strong customer service, communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a distributed IT team.
Desirable
· CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, ITIL, or other relevant technical certification.
· Experience supporting IT in a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or other operational environment.
· Experience supporting manufacturing or production technology and working directly with plant personnel.
· Experience with Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM or other endpoint management and software deployment technologies.
· Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, basic networking, and remote connectivity troubleshooting.
· Experience with mobile device management and administration of iOS/Android devices.
· Basic knowledge of Linux administration.
· Experience supporting ERP, manufacturing, quality, engineering, or other business applications from a desktop/support perspective.
· Experience participating in IT projects, hardware refreshes, system deployments, site moves, or technology implementations.
· Experience supporting users across multiple sites or countries.
