PMR Construction is looking for an experienced and motivated Construction Buyer to join our team. *This is a office based role*
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a construction purchasing, procurement, or buying role, with a strong understanding of construction materials, subcontractor packages, plant hire, and supply chain management.
Reporting directly to the Operational Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement of all materials and subcontractor packages of work across our projects. The role will ensure that materials, plant, and services are sourced at the most competitive rates and delivered on time and within budget.
A key part of the role will also involve managing and tracking all plant and skips, ensuring hire periods are controlled, collections are chased, and unnecessary hire costs are avoided.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage procurement of materials, subcontractor packages, plant and skips.
- Obtain, compare and negotiate quotations to achieve best value.
- Place and track orders, ensuring materials are delivered in line with project programmes.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Work closely with Operations and Commercial Teams to manage budgets and procurement requirements.
- Track plant and skips, controlling hire periods and chasing collections to minimise unnecessary costs.
- Monitor material stock, losses, damage and wastage.
- Maintain supplier databases, price lists and procurement records.
- Resolve supplier, delivery and commercial queries promptly.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency.
- Ensure company procedures and Health & Safety requirements are followed.
About You
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction buying/procurement.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, subcontractors and plant hire.
- Excellent negotiation and commercial skills.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to manage multiple projects and priorities under pressure.
- Strong IT and communication skills.
- Proactive, methodical and a good team player.
- Construction Manager Cloud experience would be useful but is not essential.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
