Key Responsibilities:
Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Delivery
To support learners in accessing learning, developing academic skills, and progressing towards personal, functional, and accredited outcomes — through tailored learning support, task adaptation, and proactive encouragement. Through building relational safety, supporting access, and removing learning barriers, Learning Mentors uphold Inclusion Education’s values of nurture, compassion, and high aspiration. Learning Mentors improve engagement, participation, independence, and academic progress for learners with SEND/SEMH needs.
Assessment, Monitoring & Reporting
- Record learner wellbeing observations, emotional‑needs indicators, and relational progress.
- Contribute to SEMH assessments, wellbeing plans, ILPs, Annual Reviews and EHCP reviews.
- Maintain accurate pastoral records, daily evaluations, and safeguarding logs.
Relationships, Wellbeing & Behaviour Support
- Build safe, nurturing, trusting relationships using trauma‑informed, relational practice.
- Support regulation, behaviour, engagement, and attendance through consistent routines and restorative approaches.
SEND‑Informed Practice - "The Inclusion Way"
- Deliver learning that aligns with individual needs, including EHCP outcomes and SEMH profiles.
- Work collaboratively with therapists and mental‑health specialists to support holistic learner progress.
Professional Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with colleagues across teaching, pastoral, safeguarding, and clinical teams.
- Engage parents/carers regularly to share progress and concerns.
- Participate in professional development to maintain high standards and up‑to‑date practice.
- Attend briefings, team meetings, case reviews as required.
Wider Provision Contribution
- Tutorial responsibilities (registration, wellbeing calls, ILP tracking).
- Provide cover supervision where required and support school routines, enrichment, trips, and events.
- Contribute to curriculum development, subject leadership, or whole‑school projects as appropriate.
- Support engagement, rarely cover for absent tutor and teaching colleagues.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Uphold all safeguarding expectations and act promptly on concerns.
- Follow GDPR, Health & Safety, and organisational policies at all times.
Alignment to The Inclusion Way
- Mentors build relational safety, supporting access, and removing barriers to learning. Mentors improve engagement, participation, independence, and academic progress for learners with SEND mental health needs.
Job Details:
Term time only contract
Monday - Friday
8:30am - 4:30pm
The successful candidate may be required to work across provisions, ensuring consistent standards and service.
The successful candidate may be required to undertake Midus training, Evac training and other professional training required for the role.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- A commitment to supporting children and young people with SEND and mental health needs.
- The ability to communicate effectively and listen actively with children and young people.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commit to developing your professional knowledge of SEND and Mental Health.
- Experience in education, support work or youth work setting.
- GCSE English & Maths or equivalent.
Desirable
- Level 2/3 qualification in education, support work or youth work.
- Experience supporting learning.
